STORE CATTLE –On Wednesday 13th March, Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly store cattle sale. A larger sale on the week of 468 strong store cattle forward selling once again to a sharp trade throughout with a healthy days average of £1398 for both steers and heifers. Topping the sale overall was a Limousin cross steers of Messrs Batey, High Knells, Carlisle at £1970. The very biggest and best cattle were scarce today. Next best at £1820 came from Messrs Irving, Thackmire, Wigton with a British Blue cross. Charolais to £1800 from Messrs Fisher, Lairdlaugh, Castle Douglas with two steers. Messrs Bell, Low Houses, Brampton sold yearlings to £1600. Messrs Faulder, Thistledown, Carlisle sold Beef Shorthorn to £1680.
Heifers seen a top of £1770 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Holliday & Graham, Bolton Wood Lane, Wigton and others to £1750 from Messrs Fisher, Lairdlaugh, Castle Douglas and Messrs Grieve, Whiteside to £1730. British Blues to £1610 from Messrs Fisher, Low Milton, Newton Stewart and £1580 from Messrs Mounsey, Wardhall Guards, Wigton. 12 months old Charolais to £1540 from Messrs Bell, Low Houses, Brampton.
