Lockerbie Store Cattle Sale

On Tuesday 23^rd February Harrison & Hetherington held their fortnightly sale of store cattle at Lockerbie Auction Mart.

Store cattle once again were a flying trade at Lockerbie Mart, for all types, however younger cattle sold exceptionally well, with grass fever coming early this year. The entire sale averages 240ppk for bullocks and heifers.

Bullocks topped at £1405 for an Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Henderson, Cleughbrae Mill, the same home also had a pair of Limousin bullocks selling to £1340. Other Limousin bullocks sold to £1290 from Belzies and to £1180 from Messrs Stoddart, Highlaw. Heifers topped at £1260 for a Limousin from Belzies, while others sold to £1170 from Messrs Richardson, Purdomstone.

As alluded to before, trade for younger cattle was outstanding, with two 11month old Limousin heifers from Messrs Dodd, Tundergarth Mains, selling to 293.3ppk. A 9month old Charolais bullocks from Messrs Reid, Glendearg sold to 272.2ppk. 9month old Limousin bullocks from Messrs MacGregor, Relief Farm, sold to 269.5ppk, with Limousin heifers from the same home selling to 267.1ppk.
