The sixth annual ‘Spring Stars’ show and sale of Poll Dorset and Dorset Horn sheep held at Carlisle saw a top price of 900gns twice. Firstly for the pre sale Champion consigned by James Royan. His only shearling ram entry, Bennachie Fettercairn, sired by Ballytaggart Dizzie Rascal. He sold to the SRUC Barony Campus, Dumfries. The second entry to attain this price was the Reserve Champion, Stobilee Gladiator, consigned by R & A Morton, Lanark. This lamb was sired by Lisnafillan Da Vinci who previously sired progeny to £4410. He sold to Messrs Wild, Matlock, Derbyshire.
The Stobilee flock took the next best at 600gns, for Stobilee Glasgow, he was sired by the UK record priced ram lamb Downkillybegs Dazzler and went to the SRUC Barnony.
Not to spoil the average, a further two from the Stobilee flock sold to 600gns each, twin brothers sired by the 2023 Suffolk Show Champion Downkillybegs Eskimo out of a homebred dam. They sold to Messrs Thomlinson, Berwickshire and the Lanamuir flock of Joe Baker, Berwickshire respectively.
A small entry of females were forward and sold to a top 350gns for a ewe with twin lambs at foot, from James Royan, the Bennachie flock. This outfit sold to Messrs Shephard & Son Ltd, Millom, Cumbria.
