On Monday 18th March Harrison and Hetherington conducted the weekly sale of breeding and store lambs in Borderway Mart.
STORE & BREEDING SHEEP: Another large show of stores presented with an ever growing entry of ewes & lambs. Inlamb sheep topped at £150 for some texel x ewes from TA & J Brownrigg, Howmill. Ewe & lambs were in strong demand with a stronger, older lambs demanding a premium. Topping the sale wa s a2 shear Suffolk ewe and a single gimmer lamb from Haig Murray, The Beeches selling for £210 a life (£420) shearlings with single lambs topped at £150 from the same home.
Store lambs met another blistering trade the sale topped at £188 for a Beltex lamb from Messrs Nordon, Hindrigg. Texel lambs topped at £180 for a pair from A D Cockburn, Walmersyke whose run of 20 averaged an astonishing £153.5 topping at £165 for a pen of 9. Mule lambs topped at £140 for a pen form Gavin and Matthew Foster, Coombe Cragg.
