Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday evening, when 4,487 sheep were forward consisting of 4,073 prime hoggs and 414 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £270 were a pair of Texel hoggs from Messrs Scott, Hollins View Farm, Kirkby Stephen.

Topping at 605.33p/kg were a pen of twelve 38kg Beltex cross hoggs which sold for £230 from regular consignor Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York.

This home also sold a pen of fourteen 41kg making £237 (578p/kg) a pen of fourteen 41kg at £234 (570.7p/kg) a pen of fourteen 38kg at £216 (568.4p/kg) a pen of 40kg at £226 (565p/kg) a pen of fourteen 43kg at £236.50 (550p/kg) and a pen of thirteen 40kg at £220(550p/kg).

The consignment of 183 hoggs from Boscar Flats sold to average 42kg £220.97 (526.1p/kg).

Messrs Foster, Fordham Farm, York sold 40kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £227 (567.4p/kg)

Messrs Mason, East Farm, Malton sold a pen of thirteen 41kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £228 (556.1p/kg).

Messrs Jackson, Little Beck, Kings Meaburn sold 41kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £226 (551.2p/kg).

Messrs Phillips, Fir Tree Farm, Harrogate sold a pen of seven 40kg hoggs to make £220.50 (551.3p/kg) and a pen of ten 39kg to make £217.50 (557.7p/kg).

Messrs Simpson, Highscale Farm, Wigglesworth sold a pen of seven 38kg hoggs to make £214.50 (564.5p/kg).

Messrs Allinson, West Briscoe, Barnard Castle sold Texel cross hoggs to £269 and £264.

Messrs Thompson, Stainby House Farm, Lincolnshire sold 61kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £256.

Messrs Smith, Kelmore Hill Farm, Workington sold Texel cross hoggs to £255.

Jojo Andres, Boscar Flats sold 60kg Texel cross hoggs to make £250 with a pen of 46kg Beltex cross hoggs making £242 from this home.

Messrs Thompson, Stainby House Farm sold a pen of fourteen 58kg Texel cross hoggs to make £248, with another pen of twenty-seven 56kg Texel cross hoggs making £242 from this home.

Messrs Fisher, Smalsmtown Farm, Longtown sold a pen of Suffolk cross hoggs to make £246.

Mule hoggs sold to £212 for a pen of twenty 58kg hoggs from Messrs Huck, Sowerthwaite Farm, Austwick, with another pen of twenty 56kg Mules making £204 from this home.

Messrs Wills Fawcett Park Farm, Dufton sold a pen of twenty 55kg Mule hoggs to make £205.

Mules also topped at 389.1p/kg for a pen of 46kg which made £179 from Messrs Smith, Kelmore Hill Farm, Wigglesworth.

Messrs Lawson, Stubsgill Farm, Workington sold a pen of twenty-four 46kg Mules to make £177 (384.8p/kg).

Grove Farms, Ashgill Farm, Alston sold a pen of 49kg Mules to make £187 (381.6p/kg)

Blackfaced hoggs sold to £206 for a pen of twenty-eight 54kg hoggs from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, Longtown, with this home also selling pens of twenty-six 49kg Blackfaced hoggs to make £190 (387.8p/kg) and selling a further three pens of twenty-six 48kg hoggs to make £186 (387.5p/kg.

Swaledale hoggs topped at £190 on two separate occasions for a pen of six from Messrs Dent, Naby View Farm, Barnard Castle and for a pair from Messrs Allinson, West Briscoe, Barnard Castle.

Swaledales also topped at 360p/kg for a pen of nine 35kg which made £126 from Messrs Atkinson, Low Faggergill Cottage, Richmond, with this same home selling a pen of twelve 38kg Swaledales to make £135 (355.3p/kg).

An SQQ average of 421.8p/kg with an overall sale average of 408.3p/kg and £187.96 for 4,073 hoggs which includes over 1200 horned and mule hoggs.

816 Beltex cross hoggs sold to average £208.51 and 500p/kg.

Tarn Brothers, Step Ends Farm, Middleton in Teesdale kindly offered a Swaledale hogg to be sold for charity with the proceeds been donated to Pancreatic Cancer UK. The hogg sold for £230 and was successfully purchased by Morgan Helliwell, Rochdale.

Cast sheep topped at £180 for a pen of seven Beltex cross ewes from Messrs Wilson, West Roods, Barnard Castle.

Mule ewe sold to £150 from Messrs Smith, Kelmore Hill Farm, Workington.

Rough Fell ewes sold to £129 from Messrs Capstick, High Lane, Newbiggin on Lune.

Swaledale ewes topped at £108 for a pen of six from Elliott Bross, Harbour Flatt.
