Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday evening, when 5,259 sheep were forward consisting of 4,656 prime hoggs and 603 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £298 were a pen of 86kg Texel hoggs from Messrs Raine, Stanhope Gate Farm, Barnard Castle.

Topping at 670p/kg were a pen of twelve 40kg Beltex cross hoggs which made £268 Messrs Simpson, Highscale Farm, Wigglesworth.

Messrs Mason, East Farm, Malton sold a pen of fifteen 44kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £268.50, with a pen of thirty-one 45kg hoggs making £265.50, and two pens of seventeen and twelve 43kg hoggs making £264.

The consignment of 120 hoggs sold to average 44.2kg £262.70 (594.3p/kg).

Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York sold a pen of thirteen 38kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £254 (668.4p/kg), with another pen of ten 39kg making £260 (666.7p/kg) a pen of thirteen 40kg to make £265 (662.5p/kg), a pen of nine 40kg to make £261 (652.5p/kg) and a pen of eleven 39kg to make £245 (628.2p/kg). 

The consignment of 153 hoggs from Boscar Flats sold to average 44.8kg £240.82 (537.5p/kg)

Messrs Simpson, Hoghscale Farm sold a pen of twelve 38kg hoggs to make £245 (644.7p/kg).

Messrs Jackson, Little Beck, Kings Meaburn sold 41kg hoggs to make £260 (634.1p/kg).

Messrs Powley, Low Northsceugh, Armathwaite sold a pen of five 40kg hoggs to make £255 (637.5p/kg) with a pen of 46kg also making £264 from this home.

Messrs Wearmouth, Parkside, Barnard Castle sold 68kg Texel hoggs to make £267.

Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm, Dufton sold 51kg hoggs to make £265.

Suffolk cross hoggs topped at £242 for a pen of four 59kg from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, with this home topping at 445.8p/kg for a pen of 48kg Suffolk cross hoggs making £214.

Charollais hoggs sold to £240 for 61kg from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm.

Hill cheviot hoggs sold to £239 for 58kg from Jojo Andres, Boscar Flats, with this home also selling a pen of seven to make £233.

Hill cheviots also topped at 441.9p/kg for a pen of twenty-two 43kg which made £190 from Dale Farms, Bank House, Goole.

Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, Longtown sold a pen of twelve 49kg Hill Cheviot hoggs to make £207 (422.4p/kg) with another pen of twenty-seven 45kg Hill Cheviots making £189 (420p/kg) from this home.

Mule hoggs sold to £219 for a pen of 60kg from Messrs Downie, Newton Farm, Aberdeenshire.

A pen of fourteen 55kg Mules sold to make £199 from Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm, Dufton.

Mules also topped at 398.9p/kg for a pen of four 44kg which made £175.50 from Messrs Birkbeck, Castle Hill, Soulby.

Messrs Whitfield, Low Stow Bank, Ennerdale sold a pen of 48kg Mules to make £190 (395p/kg).

Blackfaced hoggs sold to £213 for a pen of thirty 55kg from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, Longtown, with another pen of twenty-five 51kg hoggs making £199 a pen of twenty-nine 48kg at £197.50 (411.5p/kg), two pens of thirty one 44kg Blackfaced hoggs making £184 (418.2p/kg) and a pen of thirty-one 44kg making £182 (413.6p/kg).

The consignment of 376 Blackfaced hoggs from Smalmstown Farm sold to average 47.7kg £193.31 (405.3p/kg)

Blackfaced hoggs also topped at 422.7p/kg for a pen of 44kg which sold for £186 from Messrs Whitfield, Low Stow Bank, Ennerdale.

Swaledale hoggs sold to £191 for a pen of twelve 53kg from Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Fam.

Messrs Akrigg, Manor House Farm, Skipton sold a pen of twenty-seven 44kg Swaledale hoggs to make £160 (363.6p/kg) with another pen of 47kg Swaledales making £164.50 (350p/kg) also from this home.

A pen of twelve 39kg Swaledales sold to make £137.50 (352.6p/kg from Far Close Farm, Knock.

The reputation of being the original Boom Town was confirmed here at Kirkby Stephen with 4629 hoggs selling to an overall average of 400.04p/kg and £182.23 and an SQQ average of 406.92 being achieved!!
