Stubb Farm Dairy Dispersal

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

FINAL CHAPTER FOR THE STUBB HOLSTEIN HERD

The dispersal of the Stubb Holstein herd took place at Borderway on Wednesday 24th February, following the sale of Stubb Farm.  The Irving established the herd in 1984 and had been successful at developing a productive Holstein herd consisting of strong framed animals with attractive udders.

Trade topped at 2,200gns on two occasions with milking heifers averaging over £1800.  Buyers from across the UK took part with animals travelling as far north as Orkney and to Devon in the South West.  270 animals sold from mature cows to new-born calves to average £1273 per life.

Topping the cows was a daughter of Ards RP Roscoe, she was recently calved in her third lactation and was giving close to 50kgs.  She was purchased by Mr Robinson from Northumberland for 2,200gns

There was an impressive group of strong framed in-calf heifers that sold to a top of 1,780gns to average £1604.  Siring the top price heifer was Bryceholme Boastful; this powerful heifer was due in June to the Angus and was purchased by the Edmondson family from Ulverston.

Demand for the bulling heifers and yearling heifers was brisk as was the trade for the youngest heifer calves.  The 14 heifer calve born from December topped at 580gns twice to average £480.

The next dairy sale at Borderway take place next Wednesday the 3rd March and features over 200 dairy cattle in the Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale.  Catalogues for this event can be viewed online at www.harrisonandhetherington.co.uk or can be ordered from the Pedigree Office 01228406230
