Borderway Sale of Calves

On Wednesday 3^rd April Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of calves.  A useful entry of 372 forward saw strong and well bred calves a flying trade with the smaller plainer end calves easier on the week.  Topping the sale at £660 was a cracking British Blue bull from Wadsworth Farming Ltd, Big Balcraig, Whauphill who also joint topped the heifer section at £575 for a smart British Blue cross.  Their outstanding run of well presented calves averaged £550 for 12.  G & SE Fox, Windy Hill sold a marvellous run of Limousin calves topping at £580 for a bull calf and averaging £525 for 5.  Angus bulls topped at £530 from Big Balcraig shortly followed by C Horsley Ltd, Whitrigg Grange who sold 3 month Angus bulls to £510.  J Marshall & Son, Brownrigg Farm, sold a pair of Limousin bulls to £540 and a pen of three Limousin bull calves to £505.  TW Martin, Tempest Tower sold a pen of 3 Angus bull calves to £485. R Pigg & Son, Gaitsgill Hall sold a pair of 3 month Angus bulls to £445.  W Wood & Son, Groundy Croft achieved the joint top priced heifer accolade selling a Blue heifer to £575.  Andrew Vance, Portyerrock sold a blue heifer to £570.  Limousin heifers at £490 from A J Ewing, Dumbretton.
