Harrison & Hetherington had an entry of 1132 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 460 Store Cattle, 169 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings, 235 Calves, and 268 Dairy Cattle from the Dispersal Sale of J Irving & Son, Stubb Farm, Carlisle.

STORE CATTLE – At the weekly sale, 460 store cattle were forward with one of the best shows of “weekly” stores on offer resulting in some fantastic returns.  The trade seems to know no boundaries with returns improving week on week.  This week saw bullocks average £1137.45 and heifers at £1099.55 giving a sale average of £1120.93.  53 cattle broke the £1300 barrier with 133 past £1200.  The sale leader today was a superb Charolais bullock brought forward by regular supporters GP Udale & Sons, Sideway Bank, Penrith which sold for £1545 with the 2 bullocks and 3 heifers for this home levelling at £1307.  Heifers sold to £1450 for a peach of a Limousin shown by Messrs TA Jefferson, Aspatria Hall, Wigton with the trailer load of 5 averaging £1330.

Native cattle sold to £1425 for an Angus bullock from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth with heifers to £1300 again for Angus from Messrs Palmer, Longrigg Thorn, Longtown.  A consignment of note was a run of Hereford x stores from Messrs D & J Errington, Annfield, Cockermouth which sold to £1380 and averaged £1256.88.  Blue x dairy bulls topped at £1385 from Messrs Beaty, Durdar Farm, Carlisle with 3 from this home seeing an average of £1368.33.  Dennis Bowman, Croft House, Penrith sold 4 Limousin heifers to £1390 to lead the consignment averages at £1368.75.

WEANED CATTLE: A smaller show of 169 weaned calves were on offer to a very keen ring side of buyers which ensured a great trade for all classes.  A 10 month old Limousin x bullock sold for £1080 from Messrs Retson & Wright, Oakland.  Messrs Mattinson & Son, Burthwaite sold another 10 month old Limousin bullock for £1030.  Messrs Mattinson also sold Limousin heifers for £1140 and £1000.  Messrs Jackson, Clarks Farm, sold the top priced bull at £1040 again for a Limousin  at 9 months of age.
