Prime Sheep: A massive show descended on Borderway again this week with 1024 cast sheep and 4645 prime lambs and hoggs forward for sale. Presale predictions of a slump in trade in the run up to Eid did nothing to deter vendors who travelled from far and wide once again. Borderway did what Borderway does best, rolled up our sleeves and managed to defy the odds with light ewes and hoggs in particular leaving a lovely taste in peoples mouths. Heavy ewes admittedly did ease from last week’s bonanza but still sailed beyond £180 with plenty north of £200.  The awesome turnout saw a much better offering in terms of finished sheep this week, however, a lighter show in terms of the extreme machine exporters. First time vendors Messrs Gray, Langside, Lanark lead the trade with heavy Texel hoggs at £240 selling to Lancashire Direct Ltd. Messrs Morgan, Bridge Farm, Hereford sold a great run of 115 export types to top per kilo at 550p for a pen of 5 purchased by Bowland Foods Ltd. Suffolk hoggs sold to £230 from Ballynahinch Road and to 450p for 40kg hoggs from Pettigo Road. Hill hoggs sold well, being dominated by New Mains Farming who sold a great run of Blackface x Cheviot hoggs to top at £205.80 for both breeds at 49kg with a pen of Cheviot hoggs from this home selling to 452p for Cheviots with Blackfaces selling to 420p to average £194.52 or 422.2ppk for their run of 425. With this week now looking quiet trade-wise next Monday is forecast to be flying as the festival comes to an end and all outlets will be firing on supercharged cylinders.

Please do not hesitate to contact our sales team to market your sheep in the UK’s most talked about sheep ring.
