Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday evening, when 3,834 sheep were forward consisting of 3,423 prime hoggs and 411 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £252 was a 52kg Beltex cross hogg from Messrs Burton, Little Westfield, Driffield.

Topping at 631.6p/kg were a pen of fourteen 38kg Beltex hoggs which sold for £240 from Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York.

This home also sold 50kg hoggs to make £250, a pen of eleven 39kg hoggs to make £234 (600p/kg), a pen of seventeen 38kg making £223 (586.8p/kg) a pen of sixteen 41kg making £235 (573.2p/kg), a pen of nineteen 39kg to make £222 (569.2p/kg) and a pen of seven 43kg to make £238.

Messrs Mason, East Farm, Malton sold 49kg hoggs to make £248, 50kg at £245, a pen of five 46kg at £244, a pen of six 43kg at £241 and a pen of sixteen 45kg at £240.

Messrs Foster, Fordham Farm, York sold a pen of twenty 45kg at £240, twelve 40kg to make £236 (590p/kg), a pen of twelve 40kg at £234.50 (586.3p/kg), a pen of sixteen 41kg at £240 (585.4p/kg) a pen of eight 42kg at £240 (571.4p/kg) and a pen of sixteen 41kg making £230 (561p/kg).

Messrs Burton, Little Westfield, Driffield sold a pen of eighteen 42kg to make £245 (583.3p/kg) and a pen of twenty 46kg to make £240.

Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm, Dufton sold a pen of four 42kg hoggs to make £240 (571.4p/kg)

Messrs Phillips, Bridge Close, Northallerton sold a pen of 42kg hoggs to make £238 (566.77p/kg).

Suffolk cross hoggs sold to £221.50 for a pen of thirteen 58kg from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, Longtown, with this home also topping at 396p/kg for a pen of eighteen 50kg Suffolk cross hoggs which sold for £198.

Hill cheviot hoggs sold to £212 for a pen of twelve 58kg from Messrs McLaren, Nether Strathkinness, Fife, with this home also selling another pen of twenty-two 55kg making £208, with also a pen of thirty-one 42kg Hill Cheviot making £174 (414.3p/kg) and two pens of thirty 43kg Hill cheviot making £173.50 (403.5p/kg)

Blackfaced hoggs sold to £200 for a pen of twenty 54kg from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, Longtown, with this home also selling a pen of thirty 51kg Blackfaced hoggs to make £196, a pen of twenty-seven 48kg at £190.50 (396.9p/kg), and a pen of twenty seven 48kg at £189 (393.8p/kg). the consignment of 320 Blackfaced hoggs from Smalmstown Farm sold to average 47kg and £184 (391.5p/kg).

A pen of twenty 46kg Mules sold to £175.50 (381.5p/kg).

Swaledale hoggs topped at £184 for a pen of eleven 53kg hoggs from Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm,.

Swaledales also topped at 372.1p/kg for a pen of twenty-nine 43kg which made £160.

A pen of thirteen 46kg Swaledale hoggs sold to make £163.50 (355.4p/kg) from Messr Stirke, York.

A whopping SQQ average of 440.9p/kg and an overall sale average of 406.29p/kg for 3423 hoggs, which includes over 1400 horned and Mule hoggs.
