Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday evening, when 3,695 sheep were forward consisting of 3,229 prime hoggs and 466 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £265 were a pair of 64kg Beltex cross hoggs from Messrs Smith, Kelmore Hill Farm, Workington.

Topping at 620.3p/kg were a pen of thirteen 39.5kg Beltex cross hoggs which sold for £245 from Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York, with this home also selling a pen of fifteen 44kg hoggs which made £260, a pen of fourteen 40kg making £234 (585p/kg), a pen of fifteen 43kg to make £246.50 (573.3p/kg), a pen of eleven 43kg at £240, with a pen of four 53kg Texel cross hoggs making £262 and 60kg hoggs making £260 also from Boscar Flats.

Messrs Fell, Stanger Hill Farm, Workington sold a pen of six 39kg Dutch Texel cross hoggs to make £239 (612.8p/kg) with a pen of six 42kg making £240 (571.4p/kg) and a pen of 44kg making £248.

Messrs Scott, Hollins View Farm, Kirkby Stephen sold a pair of 61kg Texel hoggs to make £264.

Messrs Sayer, Town End Farm, Hackthorpe sold a pair of 55kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £263.

Messrs Mason, East Farm, Malton sold a pen of fifteen 42kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £251 (597.6p/kg), with a pen of thirteen 46kg making £249 and a pen of twelve 43kg making £248 (576.7p/kg).

Messrs Copley, Heath Farm, Grantham sold a pen of five 61kg Texel cross hoggs to make £255, with this same home selling a pen of eleven 54kg Texel cross hoggs to make £252 and a pen of five 54kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £252.

Messrs Smith, Kelmore Hill Farm, Workington sold a pen of eleven 59kg Texel cross hoggs to make £252.

Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk, Annan sold 54kg hoggs to make £253.

Charollais cross hoggs sold to £244 for a pen of 57kg from Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, with this home also topping the Hill Cheviots at £241 for a pen of seven hoggs.

With Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, Longtown topped the Hill Cheviots at 431.1p/kg for a pen of twenty 45kg which made £194, and also selling a pen of fifteen 46 hill cheviots to make £198 (430.4p/kg).

Suffolk cross hoggs topped at £244 for a pen of five from Messrs Sibson, Hole House, Keswick.

Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm topped the Suffolks at 416.7p/kg for a pen of eleven 48kg making £200.

Mule hoggs topped at £225 for a pen of twenty 57kg hoggs from Messrs Patchett, West Summersides, Ripon with this home also selling a pen of twenty Mules to make £200 (400p/kg).

Ashford Bros, Southfields, Bedale sold a pen of Mule hoggs to make 3220.

Messrs Whitfield, Low Stow Bank, Ennerdale sold 40kg Mules to make £164 (410p/kg).

Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, Longtown sold a pen of ten 45kg Mules to make £183 (406.7p/kg)

Blackfaced hoggs topped at £213 for a pen of thirty 53kg from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, with this home also selling a pen of thirty-one 51kg Blackfaced hoggs to make £208, and also topped at 419.6p/kg for a pen of twenty-eight 46kg Blackfaced hoggs which made £193.

The consignment of 373 Blackfaced hoggs from Smalmstown Farm sold to average 46kg £190.02 (413.1p/kg).

Swaledale hoggs topped at £187 for a pen of eleven 57kg hoggs from Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm, Dufton, with this home also selling a pen of eleven 53kg Swaledales to make £184.

Swaledale hoggs also topped at 403p/kg for a pen of 39kg which made £157 from Messrs Procter, Villa Farm, Kirkby Stephen.

Messrs Whitfield, Low Stow Bank sold a pen of 46kg Swaledales to make £182.50 (396.7p/kg).

A whopping SQQ average of 443.47p/kg and an overall sale average of 425.83p/kg and £198.44 for 3229 hoggs was achieved with this including over 1300 horned and Mule hoggs.

Messrs Sayer, Town End Farm, Hackthorpe sold a 42kg Texel cross hogg to make £360 with the proceeds to be donated to Cancer Research UK. The hogg was successfully purchased by Mr M Helliwell & Mr M Rafi of Greater Manchester.

Cast sheep topped at £350 for a Texel cross ewe from Messrs Lee, Carkin Moor Farm, Richmond.

Messrs Scott, Hollins View Farm also sold Texel ewes to make £295 and £285.

Beltex cross ewes sold to £220 from Messrs Bainbridge, Bonnygate Farm, Soulby.

Bluefaced Leicester ewes sold to £175 for a pair from Messrs Taylor, Swathburn, Great Asby.

Rough fell ewes sold to £146 for a pen of three from Messrs Guy, Whinfell Terrace, Tebay.

Swaledale ewes sold to £134 from Messrs Buckle, Bleathgill, Barras.

Cast rams sold to £250 for a Bluefaced Leicester from Messrs Heron, Eastfield Farm, Warcop.

Swaledale rams sold to £165 also from Messrs Heron, Eastfield Farm.
