Parkend Premier Sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

PARKEND CELEBRATE IN STYLE

A huge crowd of Holstein breeders and enthusiasts from across the UK and Ireland travelled to Parkend Farm in Fife for the Scottish Holstein Association Open Day and Parkend Premier Sale.  The event was a celebration of the Holstein cow and the incredible difference it can make in the lives and businesses of those who care for these amazing animals and the Weatherup family are a wonderful example of this.

2023, marked 50 years since the herd was established in Scotland following the move from N. Ireland and over that short period of time, they have developed one of the UK’s finest Holstein herds, cows that have an incredible ability to produce tons of milk and look amazing at the same time.  This combination of type and production came to a crescendo when the herd won the Scottish Premier Herd Competition in 2020 and 2021.

Thirty animals had been carefully selected with all the most prolific breeding lines represented in an impressive catalogue.  The trade topped at 8,000gns for a prize winning two year old with the overall average for milking heifers coming to £3543

One of the most iconic Red & White Holstein cows in the UK is Parkend Director Starlet who was a Grand Champion at the Royal Highland, UK Dairy Expo and UK Dairy Day and she also represented Great Britian at the European Show in Colmar in 2016.  Lot 1 was her grand daughter, Parkend Kimball Starlet Red VG86 2yr who was the winning Red & White two year old at the Royal Highland Show in June and went on to be named Reserve Grand Champion.  She sold for the top price of the day going to Mr Esquierdo in Ayrshire for 8,000gns.

Parkend Sanchez Tamara was unbeaten in the Show ring as a young cow winning the Royal Highland Show in 2014 and 2015 and was a two time All Britain winner.  Her grand daughter sired by Wilder Dalliance, Parkend Dalliance Tamara was the 2nd place Milking Yearling at UK Dairy Expo in March and had recently classified Very Good 87 points.  She sold carrying a female sexed pregnancy to Crushabull and was purchased by the Millar family in N. Ireland for 6,500gns.

An outstanding group of in calf heifers were sold topping at 4,200gns for Parkend Sound System Rachel who was purchased by the Bryson family from Ayrshire.  Rachel was bred from thirteen generations of Excellent or Very Goods that included several household names such as Rockset Faber Rachel, Sellcrest No Rachel Red and DRA August.  Her younger sister by Rubels Red topped the heifer calves selling for 4,500gns to a newly formed syndicate of the Swaities and Cuthill Towers herds.

The Donald family from Ling Farm in Cumbria purchased a very special group of heifers from the sale including Moozik Rubels Star Red for 4,000gns with her VG two year old dam sired by Dice Red going to the same home for 3,800gns.  These two heifers were bred from another special line from the iconic Parkend Director Starlet who was a three time Grand Champion at National Shows.

The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on the 26th July and features 120 Pedigree British Friesians in the special British Friesian Day sale.   Catalogues for these sales can be viewed online at www.harrisonandhetherington.co.uk or can be order from the Pedigree Office 01228 406230.
