Spring Selection Sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

The SPRING SELECTION SALE featured the best heifers from the WOLFA , WOODCATT and DROINTON Holstein herds.  This outstanding group of heifers had been carefully selected with the aspirations and ambitions of breeders at the forefront of the selection process.   It's not surprising then that this elite consignment of 20 special heifers attracted huge interest from across the UK.  Trade topped at 5,500gns with the overall average settling at £3397.

The Wolfa consignment from Sue & Richard Armstrong included six heifers from their most recognised breeding lines.  They topped with Wolfa Crush Rose who sold for 5,500gns to the Innes family from Nairn.  Rose was the epitome of dairy balance and style and has the potential to feature in the National Calf show later in the year.  She is sired by Crushabull and bred from a strong cow family going back to the Bosdale herd in Ontario.

Wolfa Sidekick Apple 3 sold for 5,200gns to Scott Forsyth from Baltier Farm near Newton Stewart.  Apple is sired by Sidekick and is full sister to Absolute Sidekick Advocatt who sold for 8,000gns in the Black & White Sale in December.  Her dam is an Excellent Doorman who carries the Auchensala prefix and tested with 5% butterfat, the third dam in her pedigree was the $1 million legend KHW Regiment Apple Red.

The Horsley family from near Penrith and owners of the Woodcatt herd sold eight heifers topping at 4,800gns for Woodcatt Arrows Sharon who was bought by the Donald family from Ling Farm near Carlisle.  Sharon is a December born daughter of Arrow, her dam is an unclassified two year old sired by Boom who is currently giving 53kgs.  Next dam is the much admired Riverdane Brady Sharon EX96 who has twice been a winner at UK Dairy Expo.

Woodcatt Mitchell Ashlyn sold for 4,000gns to James Sloan from Dormieston Farm in Ayrshire.  This strong framed and ultra correct heifer is bred from a special line of the Tri-Day Ashlyn cow family.  Her Lambda dam was sold for 4,000gns in the Carldanton Youngstock sale in 2019 and her fourth dam was Intermediate Champion at the National Holstein Show in 2010 being a direct daughter of Tri-Day Ashlyn.

Andrew and Debbie MacKellar from Staffordshire, owners of the Drointon Holstein herd sold six heifers topping at 3,200gns for Drointon Ryder DB Supra who was bought by Ewan Kenndy from Perryston Farm in Ayrshire.  Her fourth dam was Blondin Redman Seisme Red EX97 the two-time World Dairy Expo and Royal Winter Fair Grand Champion.  The Supra family is the one of the important factors behind the success story of the Blondin herd in Quebec and has rapidly left a legacy within the Drointon stud.  Dam of this stylish show calf won National Calf Champion in 2019.

Several calves sold for 3,000gns including the youngest calf in the sale.  Drointon Christmas Rubels Barbie was purchased by Joseph Bowness from Cliburn Hall near Penrith for 3,000gns.  Barbie is a daughter of Drointon Flasy G Babydoll EX95 who won the Production Class at UK Dairy Expo in March this year after producing over 80 ton of milk in under five lactations.  This attractive pedigree traces back to the famous Regancrest herd in the USA with her sixth dam being Regnacrest-PR Barbie.

The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on the 1st May and features over 350 dairy cattle in the Borderway Monthly Dairy Day Sale.  A special Spring Youngstock Sale will take place on Wednesday 8th May which will include in-calf, bulling heifers and heifer calves, please contact the office if you would like to consign to this sale.  These catalogues can be viewed online at www.harrisonandhetherington.co.uk or can be ordered from the Pedigree Office 01228 406230
