Kirkby Stephen Store Cattle Show and Sale

Harrison & Hetherington held their May Day Show & Sale of store cattle when a catalogued entry of 907 head were on offer.

Topping the sale at £2450 was the Reserve Champion beast a 13 month old British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Sedgley, Low Bank House, Barbon, which was bought by Mr Wynne, Hall Farm House, Snitterton.

Mr Wynne carried out the judging duties and had a fantastic show of cattle put out in front of him.

The overall championship and receiving the Eden Farm Supplies Silver Cup was a 10 month old Broadhead Rolly sired Limousin cross heifer also consigned by Messrs Sedgley, Low Bank House which went on to sell for £1850 also to Messrs Wynne.

Messrs Brass, Bridge End Farm, Soulby sold their second prize 11 months old British Blue cross heifers to make £2350 selling to Messrs Grainger, Kilnstead Grange, Wigton.

Limousin cross heifers sold to £2105 from Messrs Dixon, Peacock Hill, Dent selling to D Barker, Scarborough.

Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside sold Limousin cross heifers to £2100 selling to Messrs Barnett, Brinns Farm, Shap.

14 month old Limousin cross steers topped at £1865 from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside with this home also selling a pair of 12 month old Limousin cross steers to make £1845.

Aberdeen Angus steers sold to £1830 for a 15 month old steer from Messrs Hodgson, Soulby Grange, Soulby.

Charolais cross heifers sold to £1800 from Messrs Atkinson, Abbey Park, Bleatarn.

Steers averaged £1335.30 (+£52.29 on the year)

Heifers averaged £1303.99 (+£26.04 on the year)

A pen of four Fleckvieh steers sold to £1405 from Messrs Chippendale, Wharton Hall, Kirkby Stephen, with this home topping with the Black and Whites at £1375.

Over 60 active buyers were in attendance from Killen in the North to Kettering in the South and over 500 miles between them!
