BANK HOLIDAY BONANZA IN BORDERWAY

On Bank Holiday Monday, the 6th May, Harrison & Hetherington held their annual show and sale of Ewes and Lambs.

The bank holiday bonanza continue with an increased entry of 1531 forward with all sections meeting a glorious trade.

The pre sale show was kindly sponsored by JJ Scott Minerals and judged by Mr John Fell.

Mr Fell awarded the Champion pen, winning the Harry Fisher Memorial trophy to DJ Livingstone, Kirtlevale with their pen of Texel hoggs with singles, selling to £238 per life.

Reserve Champion was awarded to the first prize pen of Mule Hoggs, also receiving the Ernie Nixion trophy for highest placed Mules was Mr James Harrison, Low House, who sold his run of 10 to £140.

Outwith the show, hoggs and lambs met a fantastic trade with a total average of £152.27 being achieved. Topping the sale was as pair of Texel hoggs with single lambs selling to £260 a life from DJ Livingstone, Kirtlevale. Messrs Carr, Highwood sold an astounding run of Texel hoggs with lambs at foot to £182 per life, with his entire run of 40 averaging £180.50.

Ewes and Lambs averaged £114.99 for all classes. Topping at £270 per life again from Messrs Livingstone for a Beltex with a single lamb. With their run of 61 averaging £215.

Mule ewes topped at £113 per life for a 3 crop ewe with twins at foot from J Bell, Briniehall. Suffolk ewes topped at £172 from Mr David Mattinson, Cragg Farm, Cockermouth. Texels ewes sold to £220 from Mr G McGregor, Longrigg. Mr Josh Wade, Ewan Close sold Swaledale ewes with twins to £72 per life.
