PRIME BULLS: A smaller entry of 64 prime bulls forward selling to a good demand throughout the sale for all classes. Haddington Farms sold 899kg Limousin crosses to £2854, M/s Horn, Lower Griseburn, Appleby sold a 826kg Limousin to £2672 to A & D Meats and M/s Richardson, Whitehead Brow, Wigton sold 797kg to £2546, British Blue crosses to £2660 for 945kg from Haddington Farms and M/s Comrie, Stonebyres, Lanark sold 662kg to £2009. M/s Wood, Waters Farm, Penrith sold a 770kg Charolais to £2190 purchased by Mutch Meats. Top pence per kilo was the aforementioned Limousin from Horn, lower Griseburn receiving 323.5ppk.
Dairy bred bulls sold to a days top of £1643 for 732kg for a British Friesian from M/s Graham, South Lambhill, Holstein Friesians to £1569 for 760kg from Graves, Old Town, Carlisle and a top pence per kilo of 226.5ppk was attained twice, firstly by M/s Mitchell, Grassknop, Penrith for 573kg and secondly for 602kg from M/s Reed, Croft House, Carlisle.

PRIME CATTLE: A good entry of 60 prime steers and heifers this Bank Holiday Monday seeing all classes of cattle well sold, highlights include a days top overall price of £2423 for 788kgs Limousin cross steer from M/s Muir, Cleughbrae, Dumfries purchased by A&O Meats. The same vendors also sold 792kgsto £2308, returning vendors M/s Carruthers, Grassgarth, Carlile sold 748kgs to £2247 purchased by Mr Eric Hall and weekly vendors M/s Nicholson, The Lake sold 720kgs to £2235.
Simmentals from Cleughbrae, Dumfries sold to £2276 and best British Blue crosses from M/s Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton sold to £2277 for 739kgs. Charolais crosses to £1969 for 715kgs from M/s Gass, Nunscleugh and dairy bred Aberdeen Angus crosses to £1905 for 723kgs from M/s Murray, Conheath Farm, Dumfries. Top price per kilo steer was a 720kg Limousin cross from The Lake achieving 310.50ppk for Mr Eric Hall.
Heifers sold to £2047 for 666kgs Limousin cross for M/s Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith and purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. M/s Gass, Nunscleugh sold 603kgs to £1854 to Steven Wilson, Butchers Shops Corby Hill and Brampton, the same vendors sold 649kgs to £1826 and M/s Stamper, Harrot Hill, Cockermouth sold 615kgs to £1786 purchased by Alan Jarvis. Top overall pence per kilo of 315.50 went to a 560kg Limousin cross from M/s Little, Greenhill, Wigton purchased by Steven Wilsons Butchers Shop.

CAST COWS & OTM CATTLE: A great show of 199 cast cows was forward on Monday with the usual great ring side of buyers ensuring trade being good throughout. M/s Common & Son, Crossdykes Farm sold the top priced Limousin cow for 929kg at £2206 to Charles Kirkpatrick. M/s Jackson, Lane End sold the top priced Charolais cow for 941kg, 229.5ppk at £2159 also to Charles Kirkpatrick. M/s Kearton, Wyse Hill Farms run of cows topped at 871kg, 227.5ppk or £1981 and to 698kg, 245.5ppk or £1713 for Limousin cross purchased by Scotbeef and Charles Kirkpatrick. Messrs Furlong & Co, Ridley Farm run of cows topped at 893kg, 215.5ppk or £1924 for a Hereford and to 766kg, 235.5ppk or £1803 for a Charolais and 700kg 233.5ppk or £1634 for a Limousin cross purchased by Jewitt and Mr Michael Helliwell. Messrs Ridley, Wood Hall sold a Saler heifer for 684kg, 257.5ppk or £1761 to Morgan Helliwell. Messrs Robinson, Oakwodhill sold a British blue cross heifer for 526kg, 253.5ppk or £1333 to Alan Jarvis.
All classes of dairy cast cows were in demand, with Messrs Robinson & Son, Ward Park selling a Fleckvieh cow for 857kg, 219.5ppk or £1881 to Scotbeef. Messrs Hall & Co, Whitlawside Farm sold the top priced British Friesian cow for 781kg, 209.5ppk or £1636 and to 754kg, 203.5ppk or £1534 to Michael Helliwell and Scotbeef. Messrs Dart & son, Flothers sold the top priced Holstein cross cow for 795kg, 203.5ppk or £1617 to Mr Kirkpatrick. Dolphenby Farming sold a Holstein cross cow for 735kg, 211.5ppk or £1554 to Scotbeef.

Prime Sheep: The weekly sale of prime and cast sheep which included a special show of single spring lambs and young handlers which was kindly judged by local master butcher Steven Wilson. A total of 5855 sheep packed the yard with sheep travelling from the north of Scotland to the south of England, this included a record entry of 2290 cast sheep 328 prime lambs and 3239 hoggs which is beyond our wildest dreams for the time of year, a massive Thankyou to all vendors and purchasers for making this sale what it is today. Starting with the ewes the record entry was presented before our vibrant ring of keen purchasers , the quality wouldn’t be that of last week and trade would ease slightly nonetheless our average stood proudly at the top of the pile again this Monday, Dessie McCorry sold the top priced ewes at £330 for texels selling to Yorkshire Halal Meats for Suffolks from the same home to £230 and chars to £255, mule ewes sold to £214 for Scotch types from Guise, Aberdeen , horned ewes topped at £140 for a great pen of swales from M/s Ridley Woodhall. A brilliant turn out of 328 lambs for our special sale with Steven Wilson making the following awards

Out with the show lambs were a phenomenal trade selling to £290 and 725p for first time vendors Messrs Whitton, Crewgarth, Penrith selling to Yorkshire halal meat Ltd , Ossett.
A bumper entry of hoggs sold very well especially for best meated types, these topped at £270 for Beltex hoggs from Messrs Bainbridge , laneside, Middleton in Teesdale selling to Yorkshire halal meat Ltd , Ossett and to 621p for Beltex from Messrs Harrington, sleightholme, wigton again to Yorkshire halal Ltd , Ossett , Messrs Morgan, Hereford sold a great run of 165 prime hoggs to av £236.59 with 30 ewes from this home averaging £237.92 making the early start well worth it, and the promise of another load next week, an all in prime sheep average of £3.95 a kilo sqq £3.98 a kilo was achieved showing another strong result against other outlets
