Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday evening, when 4,038 sheep were forward consisting of 3,169 prime hoggs, 806 cast sheep and 63 Spring Lambs.

Topping the sale at £273 were a pair of 53kg Beltex cross hoggs from Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York.

Topping at 617.9p/kg were a pen of sixteen 39kg Beltex cross hoggs which sold for £241 also from Boscar Flats.

This home also sold a pen of fourteen 43kg hoggs to make £243 (565.1p/kg) a pen of thirteen 39kg at £237 (607.7p/kg) a pen of fifteen 42kg at £231 (550p/kg) a pen of twelve 40kg at £225 (562.5p/kg) a pen of twelve 40kg at £221 (552.5p/kg).

Texel cross hoggs topped at £271 from Hollins View Farm, Brough Sowerby.

Messrs Mason, Cairn Cottage, Kirkby Stephen sold 70kg Texel hoggs to £250.

Suffolk cross hoggs sold to £230 for 62kg from Norfolk. 

Jojo Andrews sold 57kg Suffolk cross hoggs to £227 with another pen of sixteen 56kg Suffolk cross hoggs making £224 (400p/kg) from this home.

Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, Longtown sold a pen twenty 47kg Suffolk cross hoggs to make £194 (412.8p/kg) with another pen of 51kg making £208 (407.8p/kg).

Hill Cheviot hoggs sold to £225 for two pens of twelve and ten 60kg hoggs from Messrs Smithson, Bloan Farm, Kirkby Stephen.

Hill Cheviots also topped at 417.9p/kg for a pen of 39 39kg hoggs which made £163 from Messrs Kiernan, Vale Farm, Preston, with this home also selling a pen of forty 38kg Hill Cheviot hoggs to make £157.50 (414.5p/kg).

Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm sold a pen of twenty-six 42kg Hill Cheviot hoggs to make £174 (414.3p/kg).

Blackfaced hoggs sold to £199 for a pen of twenty-one 50kg hoggs from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, Longtown, with this same home selling a pen of nineteen 52kg at £198, thirty-one 48kg at £196 (408.3p/kg) and thirty-one 49kg at £195.

The consignment of 452 Blackfaced hoggs from Smalmstown Farm sold to average 45.5kg £180.12 (395.6p/kg)

Swaledale hoggs topped at £186 for a pen from Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm, Dufton with this home also selling a pen of twenty 53kg Swaledales to make £180.

Swaledales also topped at 359.2p/kg for a pen of five 38kg which sold for £136.50 from Messrs Wearmouth, Gillses Farm, South Stainmore.

Messrs Akrigg, Manor House Farm, Skipton sold a pen of twenty 45kg Swaledales to make £157.50 (350kg)

An SQQ average of 400.1p/kg and an overall average of 394.8p/kg for 3169 hoggs which includes over 1500 horned and Mules hoggs.

Cast sheep sold to £270 for a Texel ewe from Messrs Douglas, Wetheriggs Farm, Penrith.

Messrs Guy, Fountain Head, Barnard Castle sold a pair of Texel ewes to make £266.

Messrs Capstick, Yew House, Newbiggin on Lune sold Texel ewes to £258.

Messrs Maughan, Ash Garth, Great Asby sold Beltex cross ewes to £252.

Messrs Simpson, Highscale Farm, Wigglesworth sold a pen of eleven Beltex cross ewes to make £245, with another pen of nineteen at £238, and a pen of ten at £234.

The consignment of 84 Beltex cross ewes from this home sold to average £220.15.

Suffolk ewes sold to £228 for a pair from Messrs Kennedy, Roman Vale, Long Marton.

Hill Cheviot ewes sold to £188 for a pen of ten from Messrs Mark, Sunny Gill Farm.

Mule ewes sold to £180 from Messrs Hill, Whitewall Farm, Great Asby.

Swaledale ewes topped at £126 from Messrs Dargue, Well House, Appleby.

Cast Rams topped at £225 from Messrs Addison, West Stoney Keld, Barnard Castle.
