BOCLAIR TOPS WITH BIG APPLE
The May Border & Lakeland Show and Sale attracted some of the best Holsteins from the north of England and Scotland many bred from elite pedigrees. Trade topped at 5,000gns for a great granddaughter of Apple with the overall average for 157 Holsteins coming to £2575. The sale also included the Denmire Diamonds Sale that topped at 8,000gns to average £2747 for an incredible group of cows and heifers.
Paragon Veterinary Group sponsored the show and Ewan Paul from Johnstonebridge near Lockerbie judged the pre-sale classes. The Overall Champion sold for 3,100gns and was purchased by the judge. Boclair Lambda Celebrity was consigned by the Brewster family from near Glasgow. She was bred from the PR Barbie cow family with famous cows such as Regnacrest Chassity featuring in her maternal line.
The Reserve Champion was consigned by Skirwith Hall Farms from near Penrith, Stowbeck Ferraro Mavis is sired by OCD Ferraro and bred from an outstanding line of cows all classified Excellent or Very Good going back to a 100 ton Excellent cow from the Rendham herd. This awesome uddered heifer sold for 2,800gns to St. Main Dairy Farming Company, Perthshire. The Stowbeck herd sold another 10 heifers to average £2394.
The overall top price in the Border & Lakeland sale went to the second place senior heifer who was consigned by the Brewster family from near Glasgow who sold for 5,000gns to the Hastwell family from Kirby Stephen. Boclair Rubels Apple Red was a great granddaughter of the two time All American winner, Apple. In previous sales sisters to this super uddered Rubels have sold for 6500gns, 5300gns and 5400gns. The Boclair herd sold another five heifers to average £3307.
Third place in the senior heifer class went to Wormanby Hanley Ricki who was consigned by the Hodgson family from Carlisle. She sold for 3,000gns to Mr McCulloch from Stranraer, she was sired by Siemers Hanley and was bred from a great line of the Ricki family going back to Calbret Astro Ricki.
Another awesome uddered heifer from the Wormanby heifer sold for 2,900gns to Mr McCulloch from Stranraer. She was sired by King Doc and bred from an Excellent 94 pointed dam that has produced over 100 ton lifetime. The Wormanby herd sold another four heifers to average £2625
The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on the 5th June and features over 300 dairy cattle in the Borderway Monthly Dairy Day Sale. A special June Youngstock Sale will take place on Wednesday 12th June which will include in-calf, bulling heifers and heifer calves, please contact the office if you would like to consign to this sale. The Shorne British Friesian youngstock will be dispersed on the 12th June.
