Weekly Prime Sheep

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday evening, when 4,237 sheep were forward consisting of 308 Spring Lambs, 3261 prime hoggs and 668 cast sheep.

Topping the hoggs at £249 were a pen of nine 55kg hoggs from Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York.

This home also topped at 515.8p/kg for a pen of nineteen 38kg hoggs which made £196, who also sold a pen of twenty-three 39kg hoggs to make £198 (507.7p/kg), and a pen of seventeen 39kg to make £195 (500p/kg).

A pen of fourteen 59kg Texel cross hoggs sold to make £245, with a pen of 55kg making £240, and a pen of Hill Cheviots making £232 all from Boscar Flats.

Messrs Mark, Sunny Gill Farm, Penrith sold a pen of twelve 63kg Texel cross hoggs to make £247, with a pen of fifteen 59kg making £241.50 and a pen of thirteen 55kg to make £240, the consignment of 95 62kg hoggs from Sunny Gill Farm sold to average £233.22.

Messrs Hetherington, Old Hall Farm, Penrith topped at £240 for a pen of Texel cross hoggs with a pen of seventeen Suffolk cross hoggs from this home making £233, with the consignment of 150 heavy Texel and Suffolk cross hoggs from this home selling to average £233.59.

Suffolk cross hoggs also topped at 392.9p/kg for a pen of nine 56kg which made £220 from Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats.

Blackfaced hoggs topped at £200 for a pen of twenty 54kg from Messrs Skelton, Newhall Farm, Maryport.

Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, Longtown sold a pen of twenty-three 52kg Blackfaced hoggs to make £197.50, with this same home selling a pen of thirty 46kg Blackfaced hoggs to make £185 (402.2p/kg) with another pen of twenty-nine 47kg Blackfaced hoggs making £187 (397.9p/kg).

Hill cheviot hoggs topped at 413.9p/kg for a pen of twenty-four 36kg hoggs which made £149 from Dale Farms, Goole.

A pen of twenty-two 43kg Hill cheviot hoggs made £176.50 (410.5p/kg) from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm.

Swaledale hoggs topped at £169 for a pen of nine 50kg from Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm, Dufton.

A pen of ten 45kg Swaledale tup hoggs sold to make £154 (342.2p/kg) from Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats.

43 pens and 372 hoggs sold between £220-£249.

1022 hoggs sold between £200-£249.

Cast sheep topped at £301 for a Beltex cross ewe from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside.

Messrs Lyle, Staingills, Penrith also sold a pen of three Beltex cross ewes to £250.

Texel ewes sold to £262 and £255 from Messrs Hastwell, The Buildings Farm, Kaber.

Messrs Armstrong, Moorriggs, Penrith also sold Texel cross ewes to £252.

Charollais ewes sold to £250 from Messrs Deighton, Orchard Farm, Bleatarn.

Swaledale ewes topped at £120 from Messrs Leach, The Street, Ravenstonedale.
