Borderway Store & Weaned Cattle Sale

Harrison & Hetherington had an entry of 1357 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 525 Store Cattle, 281 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings, 360 Calves, and 191 Dairy Cattle in the Borderway Monthly Dairy Day.

STORE CATTLE –  A superb entry of 525 forward store cattle with plenty for everyone.  All vendors would be delighted with their days sale especially Messrs Wigham, Coldshields, Haltwhistle who’s run of cattle averaged £1493.33 to a top of £1590 for a Limousin cross Steer.  Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth sold the top British Blue cross to £1400 and Aberdeen Angus to £1390.  Charolais from Messrs Batty, High Knells, Carlisle at £1370.  Beef Shorthorns to £1365 from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, and Herefords from Messrs Errington, Annfield, Cockermouth to £1255.
In the heifer section it was Messrs Robinson, Pelutho Park, Wigton that rang the bell with their Limousin cross achieving £1570 and another to £1510.  Simmentals to £1345 from Messrs Bewley, Broadlea of Robgill, Lockerbie.  Messrs Errington, Annfield, Cockermouth sold the top Hereford crosses to £1300 and Charolais to £1250 from Messrs Craig, Compstonend

WEANED CATTLE: A much larger entry of weaned cattle forward with all cattle very well bid for.  Topping the sale at £1130 was a tremendous British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Rome, Nivenhill Rigg, Gretna selling to Messrs Skelton, Low House Farm.  Bulls also topped again at £1130 for a Charolais from Messrs Stobbart, The Square.

Young types of grazing cattle were also again keenly bid for with Messrs Metcalfe, High Old Shield, Brampton having a great run of 8-10 month old Limousin x bullocks selling to top of £1080 and averaging up £1011.  Messrs Knox, Cragside also had a great consignment forward with a young bull selling to £1110 and a 9 month old steer to £1060.  A great bull from Messrs Sanderson, Swallowdene, Dearham topped the British Blue bulls at £1100.
