PRIME BULLS: A much smaller entry of 53 prime bulls in this bank holiday Monday primestock sale where all classes met a good firm trade throughout with very little change on the week. Top price on the day was the first bull to enter the ring a 793kg Limousin from Messrs Robertson, Newton of Logierait this sold to £2486 also achieving top pence per kilo on the day of 313.5p this was purchased by A & D Meats. Messrs Ewing, Dumbretton, Annan sold 689kgs to £1953, Messrs Miller, West Farm, Aspatria sold British Blue Crosses to £2348 for 754kgs. Aberdeen Angus sold to £2079 for 9006kgs from Palmallet Farm, Newton Stewart and Charolais to £2026 for 741kgs from Messrs Graham, Burnscroft, Annan. A much lesser show of dairy bred cattle saw a days top of £1519 for 668kgs for a Holstien/Friesian from first time vendors Messrs Crichton, Rue Farm, Dumfries and £1489 for 635 from the same home. Holstein sold to £1408 for 622kgs from Messrs Grierson, Musgrave Hall, Penrith with a days top pence per kilo of 244.5 for 586kg Holstein/Friesian from Messrs Wilson, Street Head, Carlisle.

PRIME CATTLE: Yet another fantastic show of 65 prime steers and heifers forward at Borderway weekly prime stock sale, whereby, once again trade looked a flyer throughout for all classes of stock. Twenty six sold over £2000 barrier to a days overall top of £2382 for a 780kg Limousin cow from Messrs Dixon, Lesson Hall, Wigton selling to A & D Meats. The same vendors sold next best at £2321 for 816kg and Messrs Miller, West Farm, Wigton sold 785kgs to £2303 both purchased by Mr Eric Hall. British Blue crosses sold to £2107 for 788kg purchased by Steven Wilson Butchers Shops, Corby Hill & Brampton. Messrs Gass, Nunscleugh, Brampton sold the best Charolais to £1947 for 707kg and top pence per kilo of 315.5 went to Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse Farm, Carlisle with a 623kg Limousin cross selling to Morgan Helliwell. Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton sold 720kg at 314ppk to A & D Meats.
Heifers sold to a days top of £2209 for a 698kg Limousin cross from Messrs Brough, Old Rectory Farm, Carlisle and was purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith sold 755kg to £2147 purchased by Mr Eric Hall and Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Wigton sold 741kg to £2122 to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. British Blue crosses to £2110 for 707kg from Messrs Whitfield, Orton Rigg, Carlisle and to £2097 for a 784kg Charolais cross from Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Wigton to Mr Eric Hall. Top overall price per kilo of 316.5 went to the Limousin cross of Messrs Brough, Old Rectory weighing 698kg to Pioneer Foods. Messrs Airey, The Close sold 593kg to 311.5ppk purchased by Steven Wilson Butchers Shops, Corby Hill & Brampton and Messrs Blake, Halfway Well sold 647kg to 303.5ppk purchased by R & JP Mulholland Butchers Shop, Great Orton, Carlisle.

Prime Sheep: On Monday 27th May 2024 Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of 2761 prime and cast sheep.
Another pleasing entry of all classes of sheep were forward with spring lamb numbers at 814 a remarkable entry for the last week of May. Cast sheep were less in quantity than of recent weeks and would be the trade of the day averaging pennies shy of £160, every type imaginable are wanted and subject to ferocious interest ringside. The £300 was hit for the first time in a few week with pure pure Texel ewes from Ballymena Road.n Beltex x Zwartbles sold to £255 from M/s Livingstone, Kirtlevale and M/s Watson, Bowsden Moor with Suffolks to £240 from Seymour Farms, Wigton. Mules sold to £198 from M/s McCutcheon, Trillick with hill ewes to £182 from James Delargy, Coshkib. The 1919 prime sheep returned great prices for vendors, Texel hoggs from M/s Watson. Bowsden Moor topped the sale at £250 which also topped per kilo at 455p, an overall average of 365p is well in advance of other outlets results . Lambs topped at £230 for Texels from M/s Hennessy, Orton Rigg, Carlisle and to 555p for 40kg Beltex which sold at £222 from M/s Thompson, Lakeland View, Kirklinton. All classes will be required next week with demand set to lift for the upcoming festival.
