Borderway Breeding Sheep Sale

On Bank Holiday Monday 27th May Harrison & Hetherington conducted its end of May show and sale of ewes and lambs in Borderway Mart. An entry of 985 was forward with another strong ringside of buyers looking for quality outfits while some drawn runs met more resistance. Before the sale the pre sale show took place. This years judge was Mr Peter Dent, Elm House, after much deliberation it was decided the championship was to be awarded to the first prize continental shearlings from J Browell, Quarry House which later went on to sell for £210 to the judge. The reserve championship went to the first prize pen of Suffolk cross hoggs from Sue Mitchell, Cumbrae which later sold for £160 a life. However topping the sale was a single outfit from Messrs Livingstone, Kirtlevale selling to £255 a life. The same home sold a single hogg and lamb to £240 a life. Mules hoggs topped at £132 for the first prize hoggs from JR & A Middleton, Stonehouse. Beltex hoggs topped at £230 per life from T C Whiteford, Tercosset for a hogg with a single. A total sale average of £128.2 was achieved leaving vendors more than happy with the days trading.
