Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday evening, when 4651 sheep were forward consisting of 400 Spring Lambs, 3628 prime hoggs and 623 cast sheep.

Topping the prime hoggs at £238 where a pair of 62kg Texel cross hoggs from Messrs Mark, Sunny Gill Farm, Ousby.

Topping at 441.9p/kg where 43kg Beltex cross hoggs which sold for £190 from Jo Jo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York.

This home also sold a pen of twelve 64kg hoggs to make £235, and a pen of eighteen 60kg Texel cross hoggs to make £220, a pen of twenty 56kg hoggs making £215, and a pen of eleven 45kg Texel cross hoggs making £190, 422.2p/kg.

Messrs Smith, Kelmore Hill Farm, Workington sold two lots of 63kg hoggs to make £234 and £228, this home also sold a pen of 55kg to make £218.

Messrs Mark, Sunny Gill Farm, Ousby sold 70kg hoggs to make £234.

Messrs Hetherington, Old Hall Farm, Penrith sold a pen of fourteen 65kg hoggs to make £225.

Messrs Bell, Hallbankgate Farm, Brampton sold a pen of twenty one 42kg hoggs to make £180 (428.6p/kg).

Suffolk cross hoggs sold to £218 for a pen of ten from Messrs Hetherington, Old Hall Farm who also sold pens to £216, £215 and £211.

Jo Jo Andrews, Boscar Flats sold a pen of twenty two 57kg Suffolk cross hoggs to make £212 (371.9p/kg).

Hill Cheviot hoggs sold to £202 for a pen of fourteen 61kg from Messrs Smithson, Bloan Farm, Brough Sowerby.

Blackfaced hoggs sold to £178.50 for a pen of twenty two 51kg from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown Farm, Longtown with this home also selling another pen of twenty six 50kg Blackfaced hoggs to make £175.50.

Mule hoggs topped at £207 from Messrs Smith, Kelmore Hill Farm, Workington.

Swaledale hoggs topped at £160 (333.3p/kg) for a pen of twelve 48kg from Messrs Mark, Sunny Gill Farm, Ousby.

Good meated hoggs of all weights and breeds where a good trade with hoggs travelling from Fife in the North to Shropshire in the South to take advantage of our competitive ringside of 12 active buyers.

517 hoggs sold between £200-£238.

Cast Sheep

Cast sheep topped at £290 for a pen of three Texel ewes from Messrs Wilson, Jubilee Farm, York.

This home also sold a pen of three to make £282 and a pen of four at £268. The sixteen Texel ewes from this home sold to average a whopping £260.50.

Messrs Dodd, Skylin, Temple Sowerby sold Texel cross ewes to £288, and also sold Blue Texel cross ewes to £268.

Messrs Porter, Knock Cross Cottage, Long Marton sold Texel ewes to £278, £275 and £272.

Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside sold a pen of four Beltex cross ewes to make £248.

Suffolk cross ewes sold to £202 for Messrs Chippendale, Wharton Hall.

Swaledale ewes sold to £132 twice for a pen of three from Messrs Smith, Kelmore Hill Farm, Workington and also a pen from Tarn Bros, Step End Farm, Middleton in Teesdale.

Messrs Dargue, Well House, Appleby sold a pen of eight Swaledale ewes to make £129.

Cast Rams topped £240 for a pair of Texels from Messrs Sayer, Town End Farm, Hackthorpe, with this home also selling another pair to make £220.

All classes of cast sheep where a flying trade and plenty of numbers of all types will be in strong demand next Tuesday evening!
