DUNNERDALE TOPS WITH QUIRKY
There was a smaller catalogue for the June Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale with 146 dairy cattle on offer from many of the top dairy herds in the North of England and Scotland. Trade topped at £2850 for a special pedigree heifer with 79 milking heifers averaging £2199.
Agri-King sponsored the sale with the top price going to Stephen Boow from Corney Hall Farm near Millom. This was for Dunnerdale Adorable Quirky a daughter of Stantons Adorable and bred from a Diamondback dam. She flirted with perfection and sold for the overall top price of the day going to Mr Green from Cheshire.
The Davidson family from Errolston Farm near Gretna sold five heifers to average £2342 and topped at £2650 for Errolston Attico Baby. She was bred from an Excellent dam with production over 14500kgs as a three year old.
Andrew and Scott Pounder from Stainton Hill Farms sold four heifers to average £2466 and topped at £2550 for Stainton Hill Bouncer Babs. She was sired by Delta Bouncer with a PLI+£332.
Six other heifers sold for £2500 as did the two top price cows. The first was a second lactation cow from the Brewster family from Boclair farm near Glasgow. She was sired by Lambda from a King Doc dam and was giving over 50kgs. The Fleming family from Hillhead Farm sold Hillhead Rubles Gail Red from £2500 she was bred from an Excellent dam with over 70 ton lifetime.
There was an impressive consignment of British Friesian cows from several breeders with the top price coming from the Williamson family from Barrowmoor Farm near Appleby. This was for a second lactation cow giving oceans of milk, she sold for £2150 with another nine cows from the same home averaging £1927.
Jersey’s topped at £1800 for a fresh heifer from Kerricks Farm in Dumfries and Fleckviehs topped at £2200 for a heifer in milk from Gordieston Dairy Trading, Dumfries.
