PRIME BULLS: Yet another great entry of 109 prime bulls forward at Borderway’s weekly primestock sale. Trade on the week especially for plainer cattle and the very best shaped. Top overall on the day was a 985kg Simmental selling to £2654.58 from Messrs Goldsbrough, Oakrigg, Moffat purchased by A & D Meats Limousin crosses to £2324.12 for 776kgs from Messrs Miller, West Farm, Carlisle. Messrs Richardson, Whitehead Brow, Wigton sold another weighing 753kgs to £2207.95. Aberdeen Angus crosses to £1985.18 for 865kgs from Messrs Tattershall, Enzieholm, Langholm and Charolais crosses to £1936.70 for 724kgs from Messrs McClanachan, Millhill Farm, Lockerbie to Bowland foods, Preston. Top pence per kilo of 314.5p went to a 694kg Limousin cross from Messrs Little, Greenhill, Wigton purchased by Bowland Foods, Preston and Messrs Richardson, Whitehead Brow, Wigton sold the next best at 311.5p for 661kgs. Dairy bred bulls sold exceptionally well and sold to a day’s top of £1937.56 for a 809kg Fleckvieh from Messrs Graham, South Lambhill, Longtown purchased by Brookwood Abattoir, Halifax. Messrs Clark, The Whins, Lockerbie sold a 790kg Friesian to £1836.75 and Holstein/Friesians from South Lambhill, Longtown to £1693.38 purchased by Jewitts Meats, Spennymoor. Top pence per kilo of 258.5p went to a 637 Montbeliarde from Messrs Workman, Beeches Farm, Carlisle purchased by Bowland Foods. Fleckvieh to 247.5p from South Lambhill and Friesians to 241.5p from The Whins Farm, Lockerbie. Holsteins to 238.5p from Messrs Grierson, Musgrave Hall, Penrith and Holstein Friesians to 237.5p for 604kgs consigned by Messrs Mitchell, Mirkbooths, Carlisle.

PRIME CATTLE: A fantastic entry of 82 prime steers and heifers forward which saw more than last week once again. Trade would be very good on the whole and some classes would be dearer on the week. Plenty cattle easily up over the £2000 mark with a days top of £2257.65 achieved for a 739kgs Limousin cross steer from Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith. Two cattle weighing 7362kg made exactly the same price at £2199.66 from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle and Messrs Craik, Waterside, Castle Douglas all purchased by Mr Alan Jarvis. British Blue crosses to £2186.35 from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle for 730kgs selling to A & D Meats. Charolais cross steers to £1974.59 from Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Wigton purchased by Mr Eric Hall. Top pence per kilo steer at 311.5p was a 690kg Limousin cross from Messrs Hewetson, Lords Close, Maryport purchased by Bowland Foods, Preston others to 309.5p for 649kgs also from Lords Close and Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton sold 680kgs to 307.5p to A & D Meats. Heifers saw a days top of £2197.94 fpr a 729kg Limousin cross from Messrs Beaty, Langhorn Farm, Egremont and purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle the same home also sold 743kgs to £2046.99 and Messrs Craik, Waterside sold 648kgs to £2044.44 purchased by Steven Wilson Butchers Show, Corby Hill and Brampton. Charolais to £1976.79 for 786kgs from Messrs Stott, Shaw Head, Longtown a top pence per kilo overall of 324.5p went to a 522kg Charolais cross heifer from Messrs Little, Greenhill, Wigton purchased by Bowland Foord, Preston next best was 319.5p for a 542kg Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Airey, The Close, Carlisle and purchased by Bowland Foods, Preston. Messrs Little, Greenhill, Wigton sold another at 316.5p for 572kg to Steven Wilson Butchers, with Messrs Craik, Waterside, Castle Douglas sold two at 315.5p for 648kgs and 625kgs.
