DAIRY – BORDERWAY’S JUNE YOUNGSTOCK SALE

RED & WHITES TOP AT BORDERWAY
The June dairy young stock sale held at Borderway featured 335 in calf, bulling and heifers calves consigned from farms in the north of England and Scotland. Trade topped at £2000 for a special Red & White in calf heifer. The main feature in this sale was the dispersal of the Shorne British Friesian youngstock from Shropshire that topped at £1020.
The Shorne herd is owned by the Boyd family who have farmed in Shropshire from the last 50 years. The Shorne herd was established in the 1970s and currently has 50 Excellent and Very Goods. The Boyd family have recently purchased Alton Farm in Drummore on the West Coast of Scotland and will be relocating their milking herd in July.
Topping this super group of British Friesian heifers was a Red & White heifer, Shorne Cameo Red sired by Inch Brilliant. Her grand dam was a VG88 Blackisle Garve cow that produced over 60 ton lifetime.
Agri-King sponsored the sale with the top price going to Robbie Scott from Shacklehill Farm near Ayr. Nethervalley Unstopabull Rosanne Red sold for £2000 and was due in October to the Angus.
Robert Byers owner of the Esk herd near Canonbie sold an outstanding group of in calf heifers with four topping at £1850 and all due to the Limousin sire.
Buyers had a quality group of well grown and well bred Holsten bulling heifers to select and they topped at £1050 to average £832. Topping this section at £1050 on six occasions were heifers consigned by the Currie family from Bardennoch Farm near Dumfries. They were sired by Skywalker Stark and Denovo Zinger.
A cracking group of heifer calves from the Mitchell family from Fowler Farm near Ayr topped at £500 for a Pro-Cross heifer.
On Saturday 15th June we will be conducting the First Look at Firstloook Sale at Ivy House farm in Shropshire. This special sale features 85 Elite Holstein heifers many with big time show potential. Our next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on Wednesday 19th June and features 114 Pedigree Holsteins in the June Border & Lakeland Sale with a Special consignment of 20 In Calf heifers from the Wormanby Holstein herd.
