STORE CATTLE – On Wednesday 12th June Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of store cattle with a very good entry of 330 forward for the second week of June. Trade has sharpened on the week with steers averaging £1389.13 and heifers at £1312.18.
Top overall on the day was a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Weal, Birkshawhead, Lockerbie at £1930 and £1880 for another. Messrs Harrington, Grange Grassing, Wigton sold a further two at £1800. £1740 was achieved twice firstly from Messrs Slack, Cockleybank, Bramtpn for two Aberdeen Angus crosses and secondly by Messrs Gillespie, High Stand, Carlisle for a Charolais cross. British Blues sold to £1650 from Messrs Ferguson, Sandbed, Longtown. Bazadaise crosses to £1470 from Sheddock Farm, Newton Stewart.
A superb British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Philips, Netherhill, Carlisle achieved £1780 with other crosses to £1680 for a pair from Messrs McKie, Lawrence Holme, Wigton. Limousin crosses to £1700 from Netherhill Farm again. Parthenais crosses to £1650 from Messrs Harryman, Keskadale, Keswick. Charolais to £1630 from Messrs Wood, Waters Farm, Penrith. Beef Shorthorns to £1610 from Messrs Dobson, West End, Maryport and Aberdeen Angus crosses to £1570 from Messrs McKie, Lawrence Holme, Wigton.
