PRIME BULLS: Once again the numbers are flying in Borderways bull sale with 115 Prime bulls on offer. Trade would remain very in line with that of last weeks which saw plain bulls a good trade and very best bulls just shy of where we would like them to be.
Topping the bulls overall a Limousin cross bull weighing 831kgs and sold to £2638.43 from Haddington Farm being purchased by Bowland Foods, Preston, a British Blue cross from the same home weighing 1049kgs sold to £2617.26 and purchased by Michael Helliwell. A 949kg Simmental from Messrs Ryder, Holme House, Carlisle sold to £2348.28 purchased by A & D Meats. Charolais to £2248.78, 894kg from Messrs Goldie, Greenfields Annan and Abeedeen Angus to £2210.97 for 1021kg from Messrs Taylor, Stelling House, Stockfield. Top pence per kilo overall was the 831kg bull from Haddington Farms achieving 317.00 ppk. Next best was a 739kg Limousin from Messrs Watson, Saunders Close, Brampton at 304.00.
Black and white bred bulls sold to a top of £1742.64 for 848kgs from Wormanby Farms, Carlisle. Messrs Graham, South Lambhill, Longtown sold 769kgs to £1672.58 and Holsteins to £1578.50 for 700kgs. Messrs Henderson, East Bowhill, Annan sold best Fleckvieh at £1584 for 640kgs purchased by Brookwood Abattoir, Halifax. A top pence per kilo of 247.5 was achieved by the same animal. Best Holstein Friesian came from Messrs Salkeld, South View, Carlisle selling to 229.5 for 603kg to Bowland Foods, Preston,

PRIME CATTLE: Borderway is booming with primestock with 70 steers and heifers forward at our weekly sale. Seeing steers average a very healthy £1979.73 for 37 and heifers levelling at £1823.35 for 33. Taking this weeks top spot at £2393.01 was Messrs Bell, Hoddomtown, Lockerbie selling a 799kg Limousin cross steer to A & D Meats. Messrs Dixon, Lesson Hall, Wigton sold 784kgs to £2261.84 to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. First time vendors Messrs Forsyth, Gloucester Hill Farm, Morpeth sold 807kg Charolais to £2174.87 and 759kgs to £2151.77 selling to Mr Alan Jarvis. British Blue crosses to £2091.43 for 703kgs from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle purchased by Morgan Helliwell and Simmental crosses to £2061.65 for 727kgs from Messrs Miller, Arkelby Hall. Wigton. Top pence per kilo steer went to Messrs Hewetson, Lords Close Maryport, who sold a 641kg Limousin cross to 305.5 and Messrs Nicholson, The Lake selling 698kgs to 302.5p to Pioneer Foods. Heifers saw a day’s top of £2334.02 for a 764kg Limousin cross from Messrs Crichton, Loughrigg, Egremont purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. Messrs Dickinson, Kirkbarrow Hall, Penrith sold a 738kg crossbred to £2225.07 to Steven Wilson Butchers Shops, Corby Hill & Brampton. Messrs Crichton, Loughrigg also sold top priced British Blue cross at £2264.21 for 751kgs to Mr Eric and 675kgs Aberdeen Angus crosses from Messrs Airey, The Close, Carlisle to Mrs Steven Wilsons Butcher Shop selling to £1954.15. A joint top price per kilo of 311.5p was achieved firstly by Messrs Airey, The Close with a 637kg Limousin cross purchased by A & D Meats and secondly by Messrs Dixon, Lesson Hall, Wigton with a 592kg British Blue cross purchased by Bowland Foods, Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse, Carlisle sold a 612kg Limousin cross to 3070.5 and Messrs Dempster, Castlehill, Lockerbie sold 612kgs to 306.5p.
