Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday evening, when 1594 sheep were forward consisting of 912 Spring Lambs, 380 prime hoggs and 302 cast sheep.

Prime Lambs

Topping the prime lambs at £242 and 493.9p/kg was a 49kg Dutch Texel cross lambs from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside which sold to Dowdings Butchers, Appleby.

This home also sold a pair of 49kg Texel cross lambs to make £232 also selling to Dowdings Butchers.

And again Terrys Farm topped the Suffolk x lambs £220 for 50kg lambs.

Beltex cross lambs topped at £212 for 51kg lambs from Messrs Foster, Fordham Farm, York. This home also sold Beltex lambs at 40kg to make £190 (475p/kg), with a pen of seven 38kg lambs making £175 (460.5p/kg) and a pen of 43kg making £195 (453.5p/kg) and a pen of twelve making £178 (434.1p/kg) also from Fordham Farm.

Messrs Fletcher, East Friar House Farm, Barnard Castle sold 47kg Texel cross lambs to make £197.

Messrs Lyle, Stainsgill, Penrith sold a pen of five 46kg lambs to make £187 with this home also selling a pen of twenty 44kg Texel cross lambs to make £182.50 (414.8p/kg).

The consignment of 233 Texel, Suffolk and Beltex cross lambs from Stainsgill sold to average 42.3kg, £171.54 (405.5p/kg)

Mule lambs sold to £151 for a pair from Messrs Elliot, Harbour Flatt, Murton.

Spring lambs bucked the noticed trend here at Kirkby Stephen with an overall sale average of 393.1p/kg being achieved.

Prime Hoggs

Prime Hoggs topped at £200 for 61kg Texel cross hoggs from Messrs Smith, Kelmore Hill Farm, Workington, with this home also selling a pen of four 57kg hoggs to make £190.

Hill Cheviot hoggs sold to £185, and £180 twice for pens of ten, nine and eight from Messrs Smithson, Bloan Farm, Brough Sowerby.

Blackfaced hoggs sold to £166.50 for a pen of eleven from Messrs Mark, Sunny Gil Farm, Penrith, with this home also topping at 336.2p/kg for a pen of fourteen 47kg Blackfaced hoggs which sold for £158.

This consignment of 77 Blackfaced hoggs from this home sold to average 51kg £155 (304p/kg).

Cast Ewes

Cast Sheep topped at £200 for Texel ewes from Messrs Danby, Lower Leazes Farm, St Helens.

Beltex cross sold to £190 from Messrs Benn, Hoff Row Farm, Appleby.

Suffolk ewes sold to £170 for a pen of three from Messrs Brannen, Scar Top, Penrith.
