CAST COWS & OTM CATTLE: Once again a great entry of 252 cast cows and stock bulls forward with a keen ring side of buyers ensuring all classes dearer on the week. Messrs Wainwright, Todhall run of cows sold to average 836kg, 261p & £2182 which topped at 923kg, 247.5p, £2284 and 803kg, 271.5, £2180 and 865kg, 247.5p, £2140 and £754kg, 277.5p, £2092 purchased by Charles Kirkpatrick (x2) and Owain Llyr. Messrs Smith, Logan Farm sold the top priced Charolais cross cows for 938kg, 217.5p, £2040 to Scotbeef. Messrs Bell, Winterhope Farm sold the top priced Limousin cross cow for 820kg, 237.5p, £1947 to Edres Roberts. Messrs Wainwright, Todhall sold a Limousin cross cow for 828kg, 225.5p, £1867 and a Aberdeen Angus cross cow for 814kg, 223.5p, £1819 to Phillip Bowes and Scotbeef. PRIME BULLS: A very good entry of 79 prime bulls forward for the last week of June. Trade would see a lift for all classes especially well fleshed and shapier types. The first animal to step onto the weighbridge and sold took the top overall honours peaking at £2504.8 for a 784kg British Blue from Messrs Carruthers, Rawfoot, Penrith and purchased by A & D Meats. Next best was down the cut in weight with a 685kg Limousin cross from Messrs Stamper, Harrot Hill Farm, Cockermouth receiving £2120.08 and Messrs Mitchison, Beck House, Carlisle sold another weighing 672kgs to £2100 purchased by Jewitt Meats, Spennymoor. Top overall pence per kilo of 319.5p again goes to the first bull in the ring from Rawfoot, Penirth with next best at 315.5p from Tom Mitchinson and 310p from Paul Stamper.

Dairy bred bulls peaked at a new record of £2023.55 for Montbeliarde from Messrs Workman, Beeches, Carlisle. Holstein/Friesians to £1694 for 765kgs from Messrs Graham, South Lambhill, Longtown. Top pence per kilo of 247.5p went to Messrs Mattocks, Aulby, Penrith with a 638kg & 620kg British Friesian to Bowland Foods this consignment of 4 bulls averaged 241.98 for 596kgs.

PRIME CATTLE: Borderway primestock steers and heifer sale leads the way once again with a good entry of 59 forward once againwith a good entry of 59 forward at this weeks sale. A fantastic show of meat on offer, shape and best quality were few and far between with majority of todays sale dairy bred. Despite this trade would ramp up a further 10 pence on the week. Topping the sale overall was a 758kg Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Crichton, Loughrigg, Egremont purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. Messrs Beaty, Langhorn, Egremont sold 723kg to £2136.47. James Crichton also sold the best Charolais cross heifer to £2317.87 for 737kgs to Mr Eric Hall. A dairy bred British Blue cross from Messrs Irving, Bectonhall, Canonbie sold to £1938.51 for 714kgs and another same way bred from Messrs Workman, Beeches, Carlisle to £1924.23 the same weight. Top pence per kilo heifer overall came from Messrs Twentyman, Osborne Farm, Wigton selling 575kgs to 318.5p. Messrs Sisson, Kelbarrow, Penrith matched this price with a 552kg heifer. Messrs Crichton 737kg Charolais cross sold to 314.5p.

Steers were very short in numbers today but saw a flyer throughout with a days top of £2200.28 for a 693kg Limouisn cross from Messrs Craik, Waterside, Castle Douglas another sold to £2185.92 for 704kgs from the same home. This consignment of 6 averaged a healthy 686kgs, 308.86pph equating to £2118.78 many more could have been sold to vendors advantage.

Prime Sheep: On Monday 24^th June Harrison and Hetherington held their Weekly sale of prime and cast sheep which saw another great entry of 2792 head forward for sale. All classes continue to flourish in Borderway with results being the envy of others. 1661 lambs were forward this week with an overall average of 373p, this seeing a fall on the week but still resulting in a per head average of £33 a head on last year. Messrs Trafford, Bassenthwaite Hall continue to enjoy the fruits of Carlisle topping the sale at £250 and 568pph for 45kg Beltex which sold to Bowland Foods Ltd. With their run of 34 averaging £214.74. Ewes were a phenomenal trade with 1124 forward averaging £156.33. The top of the day was £250 for Texel ewes from Messrs Leonard Pettigo. Beltex to £230 for new vendors. Messrs Peile, Parkgate, Wigton, which is £60 per head more than achieved at their previous outlet last week.  Suffolks sold to £225 for monsters from Messrs Fowlie, Guise, Aberdeen. More sheep required next week in the UKs most talked about sheep center.
