Borderway Calves

Harrison & Hetherington held its weekly sale of calves on Wednesday 26^th June within Borderway mart all classes both young and strong weaned calves were a flying trade from start to finish. The sale averages were as follows; Bull Calves £340, Heifer Calves £287, Black & White Bulls £97. Topping the sale at £710 was an outstanding 3 month old British Blue from regular consignors F J & M Mattinson & Sons, Rosewain, Wigton. The same good home sold a 3 month old British Blue heifer to £570. 2 month Simmental Bulls sold to £630 from Messrs Roan, Boreland of Colvend, Dalbeattie who sold Simmental heifers the same age to £370. Limousin Bull calves topped at £630 for a smart 2 month from D J Livingstone, Kirklevale, Gretna. Heifer calves topped at £590 for a 3 month Limousin from Nether Place, Lockerbie. C W Gott, Burton House, Cockermouth sold a pair of 3 month British Blue heifers to £560. Young calves were the trade of the day and the dearest for some time with a pair of 1 month old British Blue bulls from Evening Hill Ltd selling for £380. J Forrest & Son, Meinfoot, Ecclefechan sold a one month Simmental bull to £350.
