A small entry of Whitebred Shorthorns were forward to the spring show and sale held at Borderway on Friday.
Topping the sale at 3200gns was a heifer sold with her heifer calf at foot from Robert McTurk’s Barlaes herd. The heifer in question, Barlaes White Heather 20th, was sired by Hottbank Shamrock and out of Heather 18th and her calf at foot was sired by Barlaes Majestic. This unit was purchased by Messrs Wall from Lynton, North Devon.
Messrs McTurk also sold another heifer at 3000gns, this was Barlaes Heather Bell 18th sired by Blackburn Thumper. She was purchased by Messrs Hamer from Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire.
Best of the bulls was Messrs G Bell & Co’s Block Lochy, an October 2018 born bull sired by Longley Herald 4th and out of Bloch Snowdrop 2nd. This bull sold for 3000gns to Messrs Cottrill from Sheffield.
Messrs Bell’s other bull on offer Bloch Logan sold for the next best price of 2800gns. He was sired by Longley Hearld 4th and this time out of Bloch Iona R. The successful bidder on this occasion was Ardwall Farms, Castle Douglas.
