Borderway Calves

Harrison & Hetherington sold 338 Calves at their weekly sale and saw all classes dearer on the week. A quality show was met with a full keen ringside of buyers sending the trade through the roof. Bull Calves averaged £440. Heifer Calves averaged £378. Dairy Bulls averaged £190. The sale topped at £690 twice firstly for a British Blue bull from T & E Dun, Jeanfield, Carnwath and then again for a Limousin bull from G & ED Sisson, Grain Head, Hethersgill. A F Ramsay, Gillespie, Newton Stewart sold an exceptional 3 month British Blue bull to £680, a pair of  4 month Charolais Bull to £640 and 4 month Angus Heifers to £520 this outstanding run of 28 Calves from Gillespie averaged a staggering £502/hd. Holstein Bulls were the trade of the season topping at £350 for a pair from Hotts Farm, Waterbeck and a pair for £330 from Jeanfield whos run of 10 Blue and Holstein calves averaged £557/hd. Messrs Reed, Moss Side House sold an outstanding 3 month Blue bull to £640. Richard Wilson, Broomberry, Ayr sold a cracking consignment of suckler bred calves topped at £620 for a 3 month Limousin bull and selling a 3 month Simmental heifer to £580 averaging £523 for 12. Simmental Bulls sold to £600 for a 3 month from Broomberry. T W Martin, Tempest Tower sold a pen of 3 4month Blue bulls to £600. Angus Bulls topped at £570 from D & M Irving, Brunt Hill. Hereford bulls topped at £480 from Ling Dairies Ltd, Southwaite. Montbelliard Bulls sold to £450 for a pen of 3 from Gilliespie, Newton Stewart. 2 month Limousin bulls sold to £450 from IT & EM Carlyle, Bleaberry Rigg, Longtown. Young calves sold exceptionally well and were in short supply with 1 month old Blue Bulls selling to £350 from TA & ML Jackson, Guillyhill, Dumfries. 1 month Angus Bulls sold to £355 from Messrs Peile, Moorthwaite, Wigton.
