ERROLSTON TOPS AT £3000

Milkers average £2286

July’s dairy sales kicked off at Borderway with 300 dairy cattle consigned from many of the leading milk producers in the north of England and Scotland.  The sale featured freshly calved cows and heifers, dry cows, in calf heifers and bulling heifers with buyers recorded from 19 counties across England, Scotland and Wales.  Trade topped at £3000 for a special pedigree heifer with 95 Holstein milking heifers averaging £2286 with 59 heifers selling for or more than £2400   

Agri-King sponsored the sale with the top price going to the Davidson family from Errolston Farm near Gretna selling for £3000.  She was, Errolston Attico Geke, sired by Attico Red and bred from a high production dam.  Another super uddered heifer from this home sold for £2920, this was for Errolston Lancaster Rose, a daughter of Prehen Lancaster from an awesome line of cows with massive lifetime yields. 

The Wormanby herd from Carlisle sold four heifers to average £2500 and topped at £2980 for Wormanby Sidekick Rose.  She was bred from an excellent line of cows all with production records over 16000kgs. 

The Graham family from Greenrigg Farm near Wigton sold 6 heifers to average £2525 and topped at £2900 for Greenrigg Verity.  She was sired by Applejax and was giving 35kgs and bred from a De-Su Hartley dam. 

There was an impressive consignment of British Friesian cows from several breeders with the top price of £2150 achieved twice from the Willimson family from Barrowmoor Farm near Appleby.  These two cows were both freshly calved in their second lactation and both were giving oceans of milk.

Ayrshires topped at £2400 for a very milky cow in her second lactation consigned by Richard Baynes from the Marley Cote herd in Northumberland.   

Jersey’s topped at £1400 for a fresh second lactation cow from Robert Hunter from Lanarkshire.

Sanders Farms from Ballalough Farm on the Isle of Man sold 59 freshly calved cows and dry cows to average £1539.  They were mainly Scandinavian Reds or British Friesian cows bred from Holstein cows.  They topped at £2250 for a daughter of Lakemead Jingle, she had recently calved in her second and was bred from a VG87 pointed dam. 

A quality group of in calf Holstein heifers were forward from several top farms with the top price coming from the Stewart family from Sandyknowe Farm near Kelso.  She was sired by Stantons Adorable and was bred from an Excellent dam with lactations over 12000kgs.
