Kirby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of prime sheep on Tuesday night, when 2,792 sheep were forward consisting of 1,546 prime lambs, 412 prime hoggs and 834 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £195 where a pen of five 59kg Texel cross lambs from Todd Farming, Market Rasen.

Topping at 436.4p/kg where 44kg Beltex cross lambs which made £192 from JoJo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York.

This home also sold a pen of three 42kg lambs to make £183 (435.7p/kg), a 55kg Texel cross lamb to making £190 and 47kg lambs making £172, and three 42kg making £167 (397.6p/kg).

Messrs Slater, Whiteley Hey Farm, Macclesfield sold a pen of eighteen 35kg Beltex cross lambs to make £152 (434.3p/kg), a pen of four 43kg lambs making £171 (397.7p/kg) a pen of thirteen 39kg Texel cross lambs making £151.50 (388.5p/kg). With another pen of seventeen 42kg Beltex cross lambs making £169.50 (403.6p/kg), a pen of fourteen 36kg making £145 (402.8p/kg). And a pen of sixteen 35kg making £143 (408.6p/kg).

The consignment of 147 from Whiteley Hey sold to average 37.3kg, 396.4p, £148.04.

Messrs Dodd, Skylin, Temple Sowerby sold a pen of three 41kg Beltex cross lambs to make £166 (404.9p/kg).

Messrs Lawson, Stubsgill Farm, Workington sold 43kg Beltex cross lambs to make £168 (390.7p/kg).

Todd Farming, Market Rasen sold 56kg Texel cross lambs to make £184 with a pen of twelve 50kg making £171.50 (343p/kg).

Suffolk lambs sold to £182 from Messrs Bainbridge, Meadow View Lodge, Kirkby Stephen.

Another leading overall sale once again where an average of 324.2p/kg was achieved here at Kirkby Stephen which was 32.2p/kg dearer on the same week last year and for 287 more lambs sold.

68 pens and 245 lambs sold between £150 and £195.

32 pens and 263 lambs sold between 350-436p/kg.

Good meated, heavier lambs 45kg plus are in strong demand and short supply with these currently demanding great premiums.

Light weight lambs are also great to sell with a pen of 21 32kg Charollais cross Herdwick lambs making £96 from Messrs Whitfield, Ennerdale

Cast Sheep where a ripper of a trade with it being said some classes where the dearest ever seen!

Topping this section at £278 was a Texel ewe from Messrs Cowperthwaite, Barnard Castle.

Messrs Platt, Bramhall Hill sold a pen of ten Texel cross ewes to make £252, with this home also selling a pen of three Blue Texel cross ewes to make £248, and a pen of eight Beltex cross ewes to make £195.

Messrs Lee, Carkin Moor Farm, Richmond sold a pen of three Beltex cross ewes to make £198.

Mule ewes sold to £161 for a pen of four from Messrs Chappelhow, Friendship Farm, Burrels.
