Messrs Livingstone, Kirtlevale, sold a British Blue cross cow for 706kg, 279.5kg, £1973 to Alan Jarvis. Messrs Airey, The Close, sold a Limousin cross cow for 882kg, 223.5p, £1971 and 812kg, 227.5p, £1847 to Scotbeef and Charles Kirkpatrick.
Mr Andrew Kirkbride, Flimby Hall Farm, sold a Limousin cow for 750kg, 249.5kg, £1871 to Owain Llyr. Messrs Millar and Son, Upper Balannan, sold a Simmental cow for 836kg, 221.5p, £1851 to Scotbeef. PRIME BULLS: A smaller and mixed entry of 77 Prime bulls forward at their weekly Primestock sale where all classes sold to the same very good trade been achieved for the last few weeks.  Top overall was a 991kg Limousin from Messrs Henshall, Sarkshields Farm, Lockerbie selling to a massive £3047.33 to A & D Meats.  Messrs Houldey, Kirtleton House, Lockerbie sold a 916kg Simmental to £2670.14.  Messrs Carruthers, Merkland, Dumfries sold 742kgs Limousin to the days top pence per kilo of 317.50p purchased by A & D Meats.  Messrs Mitchinson, Beck House, Carlisle sold 659kgs to 308.00 and Messrs Henshalls 991 kg Limousin to 307.5. 

Dairy bred bulls saw a better show of quality forward and were easier sold than last week.  Topping this section was a 676kg Friesian from Messrs Mattocks, Aulby Farm, Penrith and sold to Helliwells of Rochdale, the same home also sold 669kg to £1582.19.  637kg Holsteins to £1506.51 from Messrs Pinguey, Haythwaite Lane, Carlisle purchased by Messrs Medcalf, Brookwood Abattoir, Halifax.

Top pence per kilo of 241.50p went to a 585kg Fleckvieh from Messrs Pinguey, Haythwaite Lane purchased by Bowland Foods and 648kg Friesian from Messrs Mattocks, Aulby Farm, to 239.50p.

PRIME CATTLE: An excellent entry of 58 Prime steers and heifers forward as the sun has finally shone, we didn’t expect as many numbers.  Vendors who made their journey to Borderway were well rewarded with trade sharper on the week once again for a much poorer show on the whole.  Topping the day overall was a 765kg Limousin cross from Messrs Studholme, Nealhhouse, Carlisle at £2382.98 and the same vendors selling another to £2300.10 for 748kgs both purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle.  British Blue crosses to £1973.27 for 706kg from Messrs Livingstone, Kirtlevale, Gretna.  Top pence per kilo overall went to first time heifer vendors Messrs McClelland, Knockshinnoch, Dumfries achieving 325.00 for 689kgs Limousin cross heifer, this was purchased by Steven Wilson, Butchers Shop, Corby Hill and Brampton. Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith to 323.5p for 636kgs and Messrs Graham, Cumdivock Carlisle to 319.50 for 654kgs purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. 

Steers sold to a top of £2357.96 for an 859kg Limousin cross from Messrs McClelland, Knockshinnoch, Irongray, Dumfries, next best came from Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Wigton selling 767kgs to £2266.49 and Messrs Lawson, Hundith House, Wigton selling 751kgs Limousin cross equating to £2219.21 and purchased by Mr Eric Hall.  British Blue crosses to £2164.53 for over thirty months old from Messsrs Hewitson, Kings Hill, Brampton and Friesian from the same home to £1831.38.  Top pence per kilo of 308.50 went to Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Wigton for a 710kg Limousin cross purchased by A & D Meats.  Messrs Henderson, East Bowhill, Annan sold next best at 303.50 for a 640kg Limousin cross purchased by Mr Alan Jarvis.

PRIME LAMBS : On Monday 29th July 2024 Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of prime sheep, a phenomenal entry of 3904 head were presented , which shows a massive increase on last years fixture, almost 1700 ewes sold to a top price of £300 for pure Texels from M/s Millar, Crookholm, Canonbie. Beltex ewes sold to £265 from Messrs Ingram, Logie Durno , Aberdeenshire who also sold a pen of 17 Texel ewes at £245 a head and lead the Suffolks at £210 a head. Mules sold to £185 from Messrs Borthwick, Drunshangan Hill. Ewes peaked at £160 for Cheviots from Messrs Gregg and Coulter, Ireland with Horned ewes to £130 from Messrs Carruthers, Peela Hill, Longtown. 2280 Prime lambs show a rise of around 600 on the year, and were a phenomenal trade throughout. Topping the day at £220 and 500ppkg were a pair of sensational Beltex Lambs from Messrs Trafford, Bassenthwaite Hall which sold to Yorkshire Halal Meat Ltd, Ossett with this run of 22 lambs averaging £191.27. Heavies were the order of the day again selling to £198 for Texels from Messrs Coulter, Ballymena with Texels to 414p from Adam and Amy Bell, Thethwaite. Suffolks sold to £182 from Messrs Reid , Calfpark, Dumfries and Bromfield Farms , Wigton. A larger show of mules were a flying trade selling to £147 and 327ppkg from Messrs Carruthers, Peela Hill, Longtown, first time vendor Stuart Charlton, Whiteside reported his lambs being £30 up on last year’s trade selling to £139 and averaging £129.43 for 48 Mule wethers weighing 41.4kg, thus proving Borderway to be the top destination for all breeds weights and grades of sheep.
