Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of prime sheep on Tuesday night, when 2,943 sheep were forward consisting of 2018 prime lambs and 925 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £190 were a pair of 49kg Beltex cross lambs from Charlotte & Georgia Davies.   This home also topped at 422.5p/kg for a pen of four 40kg Beltex cross lambs which made £169, with another pen of three 44kg making £180 (409.1p/kg) a pen of 41kg making £167 (407.3p/kg) and a pen of twelve 40kg making £160 (400p/kg) all from this home.   Topping the sale at £210 were a pair of 53kg Dutch Texel cross lambs from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside which were bought by Dowdings Butchers, Appleby.

Messrs Irvine, Mill House Farm, Tow Law sold 53kg lambs to make £183.   Messrs Hornsby, How Nook, Orton sold Texel cross lambs to £182.   Messrs Pickard sold 48kg lambs to make £180.50 with this home selling 44kg Beltex cross lambs to make £177 (402.3p/kg).   Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm sold 39kg Beltex cross lambs to make £160 (410.3p/kg).   Suffolk cross lambs sold to £177 for a pen of seven from Messrs Hornsby, How Nook, Orton.   Bailey Livestock, Ripon sold a pen of seven 52kg Suffolk cross lambs to make £172 (330.8p/kg) with another pen of twenty three 48kg Suffolk cross lambs making £156 (325p/kg) and a pen of eleven 48kg Suffolk cross lambs making £154.50 (321.9p/kg) also from this home.   Mule lambs topped at £136 for a pen of nine pet lambs from Messrs Heron, Eastfield Farm, Warcop.

Cast sheep can only be described as out of this world with trade for some classes being said as being the dearest ever seen anywhere!   Topping at £265 were a pair of Texel ewes from Messrs Wilkinson, Bollihope Shield. Bishop Auckland.   A pen of eleven Texel cross ewes sold to make £256 from Messrs Maughan, Sunnyside, Great Asby.   Beltex cross ewes sold to £255 from Messrs Irvine, Mill House Farm, Tow Law with this home also selling Suffolk cross ewes to make £260.   Beltex cross ewes also sold to £250 from Messrs Allinson, West Briscoe, Barnard Castle.   Messrs Pickard, Cheney House Farm, Queniborough sold a pen of five Texel cross ewes to make £250.   Bluefaced Leicester Ewes sold to £198 from Messrs Hill, Whitewall Farm, Great Asby.   Mule ewes sold to £181 for a pen of four from Messrs Clarke, Stripes Farm, Waitby.   Rough Fell ewes sold to £147 from Messrs Law, Crooksbeck, Ravenstonedale.   Swaledale ewes sold to £125 from Messrs Hill, Whitewall Farm, Great Asby.   Messrs Wharton ,Keisley Farm, Murton sold a pen of eight Swaledale ewes to make £124.   Cast Rams sold to £255 for a Suffolk from K & L Winder, Greenside Farm, Ravenstonedale.   32 pens and 82 ewes sold between £200 - £265.
