PRIME CATTLE: Another good entry of 59 Prime steers and heifers forward at Borderways weekly Primestock sale whereby quality was well short on the previous few weeks, despite this trade was absolutely flying for all shapes and sizes selling to 14 active buyers this week. Topping the sale overall was a 738kg Limousin cross steer from Messrs Bell, Hoddamtown, Lockerbie receiving £2343.15 and purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Wigton sold next best at £2338.56 for 768kgs to Mr Alan Jarvis. Top price per kilo of 317.5p went to the top overall pounds per head steer from Hoddamtown. The same vendors also sold next best at 313.5p for 729kgs purchased again by Pioneer foods.
Heifers were also short of quality but sold to a days top of £2118.29 for a superb 663kg Limousin cross from Messrs Hird, West End, Cockermouth purchased by R & JP Mulholland, Butchers Shop, Great Orton, Carlisle. Messrs Lawson, Hundith House, Wigton sold next best at £1990 for a 631kgs Limousin cross, top overall pence per kilo of 324.5p went to a 599kg Limousin cross from Messrs Hird, West End, Cockermouth.

PRIME BULLS: Yet another good entry of 94 Prime bulls forward at Borderways weekly sale of Primestock. Trade looked sharper on the whole for all classes, not many top quality bulls on offer this week.
Topping the sale overall was an 892kg Limousin from Messrs McKie, High Threave, Newton Stewart next best at £2515.35 was an 818kg Limousin from Messrs Norman, Little Orton, Carlisle both selling to A & D Meats. Beef Shorthorns to £2269.03 from Messrs Steen, Coxhill Farm, Moffat. Aberdeen Angus crosses to £2166.83 for 865kgs from Messrs Hyslop, Gillrigg, Lockerbie. British Blue crosses to £2116.98 for 684kg from Messrs Mitchinson, Beck House, Carlisle. Three bulls sold to a top pence per kilo of 309.5, firstly for 892kg Limousins from High Threave, Newton Stewart. Secondly by Messrs Jardine, Yett, Lockerbie for 721kgs and lastly by Beck House, Carlisle for their 684kg British Blue cross.
Dairy bred bulls sold to £1539.99 for a 643kg Holstein Friesian from Messrs Wilson, Street Head, Carlisle to Jewitt Meats and to £1529.55 for 618kgs from Messrs Dickinson, High House, Wigton purchased by Mr Eric Hall. This bull was also top overall pence per kilo at 247.50. 521kgs Friesians to 244.5 from Messrs Preston, Wed Holme House, Wigton purchased by Bowland Foods, Preston.
