Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of prime sheep on Tuesday night, when 2,933 sheep were forward consisting of 2,103 prime lambs, 830 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £210 was a 54kg Texel cross lamb from Susan Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside, which was bought by Dowdings Butchers, Appleby. This home also sold a pair of 52kg Texel cross lambs to make £194.

Topping at 441.7p/kg where a pen of five 36kg Beltex cross lambs which make £159 from Slater, Whiteley Hey Farm.

This home also sold a pen of twenty 35kg lambs to make £149 (425.7p/kg) a pen of twelve 38kg lambs to make £157 (413.2p/kg), a pen of eighteen 38kg to make £156 (410.5p/kg).

Lee, Carkin Moor Farm, Richmond sold a pen of four 39kg lambs to make £160 (410.3p/kg).

Charollais lambs sold to £180 for a pen of seven 56kg lambs from Todd Farming, Market Rasen with this home also selling a pen of five 49kg Charollais cross lambs to make £164 (334.7p/kg), a pen of six 50kg Charollais at £165.50 (331p/kg) and a pen of twenty 49kg Charollais cross lambs to make £159.50 (325.5p/kg).

Mule lambs sold to £146 and 298p/kg for a pen of ten 49kg from Kilnstown Farms, Carlisle.

Messrs Heron, Eastfield Farm sold a pen of thirteen 46kg Mule pet lambs to make £137 (297.8p/kg).

Messrs Edmondson, Low Wood House sold a pen of twelve 41kg Suffolk cross lambs to make £133.50 (325.6p/kg).

An overall sale average of 317p/kg and a SQQ of 321.5p/kg was achieved for 2103 lambs.
50 pens and 156 lambs sold between £160 - £210.
97 pens and 384 lambs sold between £150 - £210.
35 pens and 200 lambs sold between 350 - 441p/kg

The annual young handlers show was held which witnessed a fantastic turnout of youngsters displaying their handling skills with our judges Mr Ian Clayton, Ravenstonedale carrying out the difficult task of judging.

Cast Sheep

Cast Sheep topped at £235 for a Texel cross ewe from Messrs Slater, Whiteley Hey Farm, Macclesfield. This home also topped the Beltex cross ewes at £220, and sold a pen of eleven Beltex cross ewes to make £212.

Leicester ewes topped at £222 from Kilnstown Farms, with another pen of three Leicester ewes making £202 from this home.

Mule ewes sold to £162 from Messrs Wharton, Keisley Farm, Murton.

Swaledale ewes sold to £106 from Messrs Owen, Sandwath Farm, Kirkby Stephen with a pen of fifteen Swaledale ewes making £100 from Kilnstown Farms.
