Anniversary Store Cattle Show & Sale

STORE CATTLE - Borderway Mart held their 50^th year Anniversary show and sale of 847 store cattle and what an Anniversary sale to remember. Trade was absolutely outstanding from the off. An overall average of £1482.64 was achieved with steers averaging £1513.06 and heifers levelling out at £1460.74.

The pre sale show was kindly sponsored by Arco and Lloyd Allroad and ably judged by Mr Michael Atkinson who awarded the Overall Champion to Messrs Millar, Crookholm Farm, Canonbie with their first prize British Blue cross heifer, this heifer later sold for £3500 to Messrs Isaacson, Isle of Wight. The Reserve honors went to the first prize Limousin cross steer from Messrs Priestley, Cracrop Farm, Brampton and later sold for £1950. A total of fourteen cattle sold to £2000 or more.

Out with the show, highlights include £2400 for a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Bunting, Midtown, Dumfries, £2400 for a British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Timm, Lowfield Farm, Leeds, £2300 for a British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Priestley, Cracrop and to £2250 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Pearson, The Faulds, Wigton.

Steers sold to £2030 twice and on both occasions from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, Gretna, firstly for a Limousin cross and secondly for a Beef Shorthorn.  Five steers sold to £2000 per head and these were from Messrs Baty, Broom Hill, Carlisle.  Messrs Stainton, The Garth, Croglin, Messrs Priestley, Cracrop, Messrs Storey, Limestone, Penrith and finally from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, Gretna.

Black and whites sold to £1600 per head for a pen of four Holstein Friesian from Messrs Atkinson, Hawkrigg, Appleby.
