Anniversary Young Calf Show & Sale

On Wednesday 21^st of August, Harrison and Hetherington held their 50^th anniversary show and sale of calves at Borderway Mart.

Today’s trading seen 450 calves of all classes go under the hammer, which is a huge offering for this time of year. There was a quality offering of calves forward for show, which fell in the capable hands of Mr Jack Monk, who awarded his Overall Champion to first time consignor Messrs Park, Dalpeddar, Sanquhar with a 3 month old Charolais cross bull calf which later sold to £800. Reserve Champion came from again another first time consignor Messrs Mair & Son, Bartaggon, Castle Douglas, with a lovely 3 month old Charolais cross heifer, equating £545.

 Out with the show, Aberdeen Angus bulls topped at £540 from George Ireland Livestock and Black & Whites to £230 from Messrs Blamire, Mid Whinnow. Hereford peaked at £545 from Ling Daries and Limousins to £600 from Messrs Wilson, Arngill House. British Blues sold to £735 from Messrs Hornby, Laggonmore.

Heifers topped at £625 from Messrs Mair, Bartaggon for a lovely Charolais heifer. British Blue heifers topped at £560 from Messrs Martin, Tempest Tower and Shorthorn calves to £550 from Theakston Grange.
