STORE LAMBS – OPENING SALE

On Thursday 22^nd August, Harrison and Hetherington held its annual August show and sale of store lambs in Lazonby Market. A total of 3057 went under the hammer to average £101.03 +17 on the same sale last year. Before the sale the pre-sale show took place with this years judge Mr Robert Atkinson, Richmond after much deliberation the championship & Joe Armstrong Memorial Trophy went to the first prize pen of mules from Peter & Pauline Smith, Parson Sheilds. The champion pen later sold for £135. The reserve champion pen went to Messrs Pickthall, Mains Farm who sold to £138 and whose run of 168 averaged £115.73. Beltex lambs topped at £154 for the first prize pen from Mike and Marie Faulder, Ewan Close for a pen of 10 the same home sold 34 to average £142.71. Messrs Watson, Croglin Low Hall sold a run of 79 Cheviot Cross lambs to sell for a average of £123.59 topping at £132. A total of 1387 mules were forward as the mule center of the north’s reputation was confirmed with pen regularly selling over £90. The Highlight of the day went to William and Adam Watson, Saunders Close who put 156 mules in the ring at once. A youthful ringside of customers was witnessed with confidence in the next generation will continue the markets trading for years to come.
