On Wednesday 28th August 2024 Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of Store cattle. Yet another outstanding entry of 742 Store cattle forward and an outstanding trade to match. Quality would be a lot less on the week as would size but the sale still managed to average a healthy £1403.26.
Top prices of the day were two selling at £1980, firstly from Messrs Johnstone, Westray, Cockermouth selling their Limousin cross steer, secondly was from Messrs Grice, Newtown, Farm, Carlisle with a Limousin cross heifer. Notable prices in specific breeds were £1920 for Beef Shorthorn crosses from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Brampton, £1900 for British Blue crosses from Messrs Johnstone, Westray and also same price from Messrs Deane, Rigg Head, Carlisle. Charolais from Messrs Udale, Sideway Bank, Penrith to £1870 and £1860 for two from Messrs Holliday, Newbampton Farm, Wigton. Natives sold to £1770 for a Hereford from Messrs Johnstone, Westray and Aberdeen Angus to £1730 from Messrs Ferguson, Sandbed, Longtown. Heifer highlights were £1940 for Limousin crosses from Messrs Beattie, Ratlinggate, Carlisle, £1760 for British Blue crosses from Messrs Thompson, Woodhead, Carlisle and for Uskstar Limited, Oakghyll Farm, Brampton. Messrs Lawson, Newhouse, Penton sold Charolais heifers to £1730 and Fisher Farming, Smalmstown, Longtown sold two to £1700. Simmentals to £1710 from Messrs Rogerson, Wardpark, Lockerbie. Aberdeen Angus to £1630 for two from Messrs Lawson, New House, Carlisle.
Dairy bred cattle sold to £1600 for a Friesian steer from Messrs McMaster, Knocknairn, Stranraer, Holstein Friesians to £1560 from Messrs Watson, Howrigg, Wigton and Fleckviehs to £1530 from Messrs Hodgson, White House, Penrith.
