HILLHEAD OF COVINGTON TOP AT £2650

116 Holstein heifers average £2211

The September Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale had a packed catalogue of 372 dairy cattle consigned from across the North of England, Scotland and Wales.  Buyers from 21 counites were recorded on the buyers lists resulting in a brisk trade for milking cattle.  Trade topped at £2650 with 116 Holstein heifers averaging £2211 with only a small number selling for less than £2000.

Agri-King sponsored the sale with the top price going to the Baillie family from Hillhead of Covington Farm near Biggar selling for £2650.  She was, Covington Radical Flow, sired by RI-VAL-RE Radical with a PLI+£461 and bred from a high production dam that gave over 11000kgs as a two year old.

The Wadsworth family from Big Balcraig Farm near Newton Stewart sold ten heifers to average £2442 topping at £2550 twice.  The first was for a daughter of Hardball with a PLI+£306 and the second was sired by ST Gen Helix Paco.

Steven Boow from the Dunnderdale herd sold four tremendous heifers and topped at £2550 for Dunnderdael Lugnut Ivory.

The Brownfield herd owned by Matthew Gemmel from Dumfries sold an impressive group of cows and heifers and topped at £2550 for an awesome uddered heifer sired by Bomaz Episode. 

A quality group of in calf Holstein heifers were forward from several top farms with the top price of £2000 achieved on three occasions to average £1783.  These three top sellers were all consigned by Robert McColm from Stranraer.  These powerful framed heifers were all due in early October to the Angus. 

Short bred Holstein heifers due in the spring of 2025 averaged £1094 and topped at Brentwood Augustus Johnson who was consigned by the Taylor family from Carnforth.  She was due in January to the Angus.

79 well grown and well bred Holstein bulling heifers averaged £847 and topped at £1150 on three occasions.  These three strong framed heifers were consigned by Robert Byers from Woodslee Farm near Canonbie and were all sired by Denovo Raffa and bred from dams with high butterfat and protein. 

The sale finished with an impressive consignment of heifers from the Williams family from Anglesey in North Wales. Their well known Clwch herd is one of the best herds in the region having won the North Wales Herd Competition on several occasions in recent years.

Topping this fine group of heifers at 2,200gns was Clwch Luster Destiny.  She was bred from nine Excellent or Very Good dams tracing back to Dellia.  She was due in February to the Hereford.
