“EURO” SALE OF CONTINENTAL BREEDING SHEEP

On Friday, 6^th September Harrison & Hetherington conducted its Annual Sale of Euro Continental ewes and shearlings in Borderway market. A total entry of 1500 went under the hammer to a ringside of buyers from all corners of the UK ensuring all classes were kindly bid for. Topping the sale was a pair of pure Texel Shearlings from Messrs Wales, Thackwood which sold for £760 per head. William Graham, Craigdarock sold a single texel shearling to £720 & Karen Wight, Midlock to £700. Texel ewes topped at £420per head for a pair from G Mccarther, Ayr. Included in the sale was the dispersal on behalf of Tony & Scott Dempster, Castlehill who sold a terrific run of Texel, Beltex and half bred ewes to average £222 per head for 353 sold. This included selling trio of Beltex cross gimmers to £310 and Suffolk cross gimmers to £300 as well as 15 half breds to £250. Harrison and Hetherington would like to thank the Dempster family for there support over the years and we would like to wish them all the best for the future.

Commercial sheep were a pleasure to sell as a total sale average of £224.60 was achieved with ewes averaging £210 +£42 and gimmers averaging £231 +£39. Messrs Hewitson, Shalton Lodge & Byresteads sold an unbelievable run of 121 texel cross shearlings t0 average £269. Ian & Stuart Armstrong, Shankfield Head sold 80hard working texel cross shearlings to average £218. A great show of sheep was forward with vendors delighted with the days trading with sheep describes as pounds dearer than other centres.
