Kirkby Stephen NEMSA Lamb Sale Friday 13th September 2024
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen mart held their annual prize NEMSA show and sale of Gimmer Lambs on Friday 13th September, where a catalogued entry of 8,160 lambs were on offer.
The sale set off to a flying start which was maintained right to the very end with a total clearance to average £154.38 up £33.66 with no lambs selling under £100, which was for the smallest long term keep lambs.
23 pens and 274 lambs selling between £200-£500.
54 pend and 747 lambs sold between £180-£500
The sale topped at £500 for the overall champion pen of ten lambs from Messrs Hayton, Asby Grange which were purchased by Messrs Brown, Dove Cote Barn, Leyburn.
The first prize small breeders also received the reserve champion rosette from Messrs Burrow & Rutter Armstrong, Langwathby Hall which went on to sell for £260 to Messrs Fox, Clitheroe.
The second prize in the open class was awarded to Messrs Brown, Asby Hall which sold to £380 to James Robinson, Carnforth.
Also achieving £380 was the fourth placed pen of ten lambs from Messrs Hutchinson, Redgate purchased by Messrs Richardson, Ghyll House, Dufton.
Buyers weren’t frighted to purchase large penfulls of tupping lambs which achieved some fantastic trade with Messrs Brown Asby Hall selling a pen of 22 to make £240 with this home also selling a pen of 20 at £198, a pen of 30 at £195. Messrs Buckle, Bleathgill sold a pen of 20 to make £210. Kilnstown farms sold a pen of 20 to make £210.
Kilnstown Farms sold their top pen to make £320 with a pen of 20 to make £200 and another two pens of 20 at £190. With the run of £504 lambs from this home selling to average £166.
One of the busies ringsides of buyers seen for some time with many new and regular customers been in attendance travelling from Abeerdeen to Cornwall and from most other counties of the British isles. Over eighty active buyers were in attendance with many others going away empty handed.
All classes of tupping lambs were in strong demand and the majority of the strongest tuppers selling between £170-£200.
The trade of the day was for the running lambs with most of these selling between £130-£150 with no lambs selling under £100 for the very smallest lambs from a complete consignment.
