PRIME CATTLE: Week on week trade drives forward at Borderway as it provides the numbers, quality and trade required and yet more numbers could be sold to vendors advantage! Topping the sale overall was a superb Limousin cross heifer from the quality stalwart Messrs Crichton, Loughrigg, Egremont who not only achieved top pounds per head of £2418.50, he also sold to the second top overall pence per kilo of 345.5p for the same animal which was purchased by Mr Eric Hall. Next best heifer came from Messrs Dent, Elm House, Appleby with a 737kg Limousin cross selling to £2325.24 purchased by R & JP Mulholland, Great Orton, Carlisle. Messrs Dickinson, Kirkbarrow Hall, Penrith sold a 665kg British Blue to £2164.58 and a 630kg Charolais cross from Messrs Dent, Elm House sold to £2050.65. Top overall pence per kilo of the day went to Elm House with a 623kg Limousin cross achieving 347.5p and was purchased by Steven Wilson, Butchers Shops, Corby Hill and Brampton.
Steers sold to a days top of £2441.97 for a 774kg British Blue cross from Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Wigton. Next best at £2398.18 went to Messrs Dickinson, Kirkbarrow Hall, Penrith for 785kg and Messrs Lawson, Hundith House, Wigton sold 736kg to £2380.96 for another. Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Wigton also sold top overall Charolais cross to £2166.95 for 759kgs. Top price per kilo of 323.5p went to Hundith House, Wigton 737kg Limousin cross
A few pure native cattle starting to come forward and met a marvellous trade with an 644kg pure Galloway selling to £1838.62 or 285.5p from Messrs Wallace, Gapshields, Brampton. Messrs Brough, Old Rectory sold a 603kg Belted Galloway to £1781.87 or 295.5p and purchased by Steven Wilson Butchers Shops, the same vendors also sold a 522kg steer to 285.5p and purchased by R & JP Mulholland Butcher Shop, Great Orton, Messrs Wentworth Waites, Thornthwaite Hall, Penrith sold a great run of Belted Galloway to a top of £1593.25 for a 589kg steer.

PRIME BULLS:
A much larger than anticipated show of 123 prime bulls forward seeing lighter bulls a sharper trade on the week and heaviest slightly harder work. Many new vendors forward taking advantage of the Borderway live market. Topping the sale overall was a 814kg British Blue cross from Messrs Brough, Old Rectory, Carlisle, achieving £2584.45 selling to A & D Meats.
Top overall price per kilo at 319.5p went to vendors Messrs Bowe, Mechi Farm, Wigton, who last showed bulls 10 years ago, this 691kg Limousin cross was also purchased by A&D Meats.
Other top price bulls came from Messrs Brown, Maqueston Farm, Thornhill, selling 1036kg Beef Shorthorn to £2450.14 to Morgan Helliwell. Messrs Foster, North View, Carlisle, sold a 799kg to Limousin to £2440.95 and Messrs Miller, West Farm, Aspatria sold 795kg to £2396.93, Simmentals to £2218.16 for 817kg for Hindmarsh Partners, Stooprigg, Hexham, Charolais to £2195.50 for 769kg for Messrs Young, Girvan Mains, Girvan and Aberdeen Angus cross to £2120.97 for 787kg from Messrs Bland, The Flatt, Brampton.
Top price per kilo were 317.5p for Old Rectory Farms, British Blue cross. Messrs Twentyman, Osborne Farm, Wigton, sold to 315.5p for a Limousin, and Messrs Bell, Winterhope, Lockerbie, sold a 621kg Main Anjou cross to 308.50p.
Dairy bred bulls were once again easily sold with a top of £1745.25 for 650kg from Messrs Henderson, East Bowhill, Annan, selling to Bowland Foods, Preston. Friesians sold to £1674 for 682kg for Messrs Mattocks, Aulby, Penrith. Holstein Friesians sold to £1656.76 for 776kgs for Messrs Pickering, Peel Flatt, Hexham. Top price per kilo of 268.5p went to Messrs Henderson’s Fleckvieh and Frisians to 245.5p from Aulby Farm, Penrith.

Messrs Norman, Little Orton Farm, sold a run of 6 Limousin cows to Average 787kg, 262p, £2060 and topped at 870kg, 265.5p, £2309,832kg 261.5p, £2175, 779kg, 257.5p,£2005 and 688kg 269.5p £1854, bought by Owain Llyr.
Messrs Fisher, Spittal Farm, sold the top priced Angus cow for 913kg, 233.5p,£2131 to Michael Helliwell.
Messrs Mullholland, Great Orton, sold a Limousin cow for 884kg. 239.5p, £2117 to Owain Llyr. Maxwell Farming’s run of Angus cows topped at 627kg, 267.5p, £1677, 517kg 207.5p, £1322 and 536kg, 259.5p, £1390 bought by Les Fell, Sean McGimpsey and Alan Jarvis.
Messrs Grieve & Son, Whiteside Farm’s run of cows topped at 677kg, 267.5p, £1810 and 677kg, 257.5p, £1743, bought by Michael Helliwell.
A plain show of dairy cast cows were forward.

Messrs Millar & Sons, Trailflat, sold a run of Holstein cross cows to a top of 894kg, 187.5p, £1676 to Michael Helliwell.
Messrs McCamley, Knockshiffnock Farm sold Holstien cross cows to 890kg, 187.5p, £1668, to Scotbeef. While Messrs Beaty, Stonewalls sold a Holstein cross cow at 940kg, 177.5p, £1668 to Les Fell.
Messrs Hunter, Berrier Head, sold a Holstein cross cow for 860kg, 185.5p. £1595 to Scotbeef.
Messrs Benson, Gill House, sold the top price Holstein cross heifer for 500kg, 219.5p, £1097 to Alan Jarvis.
