Store and Breeding Sheep

On Monday 16^th September Harrison & Hetherington held their September Show and sale of store lambs. Selling 1623 head to average £92 with 350 hill lambs in the mix.  Also a 100 head of Breeding sheep topped at £250 for Rouge crosses from Messrs Smithson, Skelcies, Kirkby Stephen.

The Show was kindly and aptly judged by Mr Oliver Thomlinson, Croft House, Wigton.  He placed his Champions a pen of five outstanding Beltex crosses from Scott and Tony Dempster, Castlehill, Lockerbie which sold for £155 per head to the Judge.  Reserve Champions were awarded to Richard Howe, Cochrane Nurseries, Longtown, a pen of five Texel crosses which went on to sell for £125

Out of the Show Mule lambs sold to £106 from Messrs Purdham, Croft House, Penrith.  Many Suffolk and Texel cross store lambs still cashing in regularly at over £100 and smaller running hill lambs often selling between £70 to £85.  Breeding sheep 2 crop Dorper cross Easycare ewes sold to £192 for a pen of 16 from Messrs Price, Portgate, Allendale.  3 crop Texel cross Mule ewes sold to £190 from Malcolm Dunn, Buttermere Close.  Many more could have been sold.
