Annual Mule Gimmer Lamb Sale

On Wednesday 18^th of September, Harrison & Hetherington conducted the Annual Mule Gimmer Lamb Sale in Middleton in Teesdale market. A total of 1320 lambs went under the hammer to sell to a wonderful average of £147.54 (+£44.95). A great show of sheep were forward and met a wonderful trade which saw vendors delighted as pre-sale expectations were blown out of the water. Pen after pen of genuine fell lambs went through the sale ring with over 300 lambs selling for £160 or more. The runner lambs were described as the deerest seen to date with some reports being £20 a head of other centres. Before the sale the pre-sale show took place with Mr Callum Kettles & Mrs Alice Hunt judging with young enthusiast Joe Kidd standing in as referee. Afterlooking over 10 pens out judgers awarded the GM Teward Trophy and NEMSA rosette to J C & J White, Rigg Farm which later sold for a new centre record of £300 a head.
The reserve champion pen went to C & JC Stephenson, Pikestone who went on to sell for £210. Returning vendors, HW & MA Alderson & Son, Howgill, came 3^rd selling for £260 and brought 40 sheep to average £174.50, while, annual supporter DJ Mallon, Pallet Crag came fourth, selling the first pen in the ring to £2440. Neville & Alison Bainbridge, Laneside, sold a smart pen to £205 and sold 76 to average £156.61. Those loyal to the market were rewarded with a sensational trade from start to finish and many more can be sold to advantage.
